WORTH CONSUMING!
Several of the essays are about women’s anxiety about raising girls, fears that they will fall into the common mother-daughter trap of viewing their girls as extensions of themselves, fears of suffocating overidentification with our daughters’ successes, struggles, and shortcomings, of being over-invested in their lives. But it’s also about how we all want to do right by our girls and not make the same mistakes our mothers made, and how this is a way of healing ourselves. Mothering a daughter is sort of a way to mother yourself as a little girl, to give that girl the kind of nurturing and love that we needed.
