Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Doris: An Anthology 1991-2001" — 6 years ago

this is a very unique book. As can be seen from the title, this is an anthology and more specifically a collection of Zines written in ten years.

Although it can get repetitive and overwhelming, it is unique to the definition as it contains not only writing, but also comics, drawings, and even self-help sections. This book is not necessarily about the narrative content, but rather about the actual content which was created to have a larger effect on the reader by indulging more than just the eyes. This book is a new form of literature, you might argue and you must see it to believe it. However, as Cindy states herself, this book is not a novel and should not be read as such—i.e. from start to finish—but should instead be picked here and there every once in a while. (trust me i tried doing it the other way, the “novel” way, and it didn’t work too well)

A story about "Office Space (Full Screen Edition)" — 6 years ago

    WORTH CONSUMING!

This movie is what my friends and I like to call a quotable because although it was a fairly enjoyable movie, it appears that people quote it more often than see it.

I did enjoy it and intend to see it again sometime, but I was let down when I did not experience the side splitting laughter and tears that I was talked into believing i would while watching this movie. I have to say that the best part of the movie was that mummbling guy with the stapler that burned the office down and didn’t get any cake. It was good, but not THAT good, so everyone needs to stop pretending like its f***ing gold on video. (And by the way, the main character got off way to easy)

Feminism and all of those isms — 6 years ago

    WORTH CONSUMING!

As I read the previous entry, i did realize how annoying it may be for a non-Spanish speaker to understand parts of the movie. However, my version does contain subtitles, but i think that the fact that they purposely did not include them is an act of solidarity between the movie and other Latinos. Code switching is a regular part of Mexican-American (Chicano/a) culture and the fact that the movie contained a lot of it really made me (a Chicano) feel for the protagonist more.

On another note, this movie is great for self esteem and just overall body image. I think the quote from the movie, “Pretty dresses are just for skinny girls” really captures the essence of the movie. This movie has feminism, defies social norms, challenges political problems, culture, etc. It is definitively worth seeing.

short, quick, and sweet — 6 years ago

    WORTH CONSUMING!

The characters and story line is amazing and new. Its very twisty and turn-y, its a good, quick, and entertaining read. The plot twists multiple times and although the ending is somewhat predictable, there are plenty of other surprises in the book. This is not a story of a love triangle but more of a love hexagon.
