    WORTH CONSUMING!

Cute – a nice, light, charming style, with just a little bit of darkness to keep us on our toes. I really came to enjoy Precious’s character by the end.

Many interesting concepts – probably too many for one book. The story progressed very quickly, which drew one along, but there was less character development than I like.
Also, I found that I was jerked out of the story when the narration, which nearly exclusively followed Ray’s point of view, abruptly mentioned something that couldn’t have been known to him, or something that he didn’t notice.
Could’ve been good, with more pages to contain the story and better editing, but there were enough little things to make it not fun.

    WORTH CONSUMING!

I picked this up at a used book sale held at a local church. It was fifty cents, and just as I paid, the Money-taking Lady said, “I don’t think you’ll like this book.”

    Thanks, Lady.

    WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked this book. Quite a lot, actually. The narration was clear and easy to read, and I mostly found the characters likable. Flawed, but likable nonetheless. Not a lot of action here, but I enjoyed the way the twinned elements (past and present) of the story were developed, giving us insights into the main character as girl and as young woman. The relationship bits felt right, and I grew to know the characters becoming totally absorbed by the end.

    NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Disappointing. The book is labelled as (among other things) a collection of Asimov’s fantasy works. Nearly all the fiction is selected George & Azazel stories, which were honestly not very good, and were dressed up to pass as science fiction. Barely.

Of the other fictional pieces, two were clearly fantasy, and kind of cute, but the other was neither fantasy or science fiction – there were no fantastical elements, only a deluded character and a poorly set-up punchline.

The non-fiction bits were a little better, but still off putting in that we had to listen to Asimov contradict himself regarding what was fantasy and what was science fiction and how fast 7-league boots go.

Throw in some bad copy editing, and we’re done. A very disappointing work, made the moreso when contrasted with much of Asimov’s other publications.
