    WORTH CONSUMING!

I liked it. Reminiscent of other Gaimans (which is both a good and a slightly bad thing – I sometimes find that each book has characters that feel like other characters, such as the man Jack and the pair of baddies in Neverwhere, but then again, it’s been a while since I read Neverwhere).

As always, Gaiman tells a good story, and well. His conversational tone entertained me and, I thought, would work well for a younger person reading this book.
I enjoyed the progression we saw in Bod, and I became more and more fond of him as the book progressed.
One concern I have is that the opening is pretty intense, and I’d be afraid that I’d traumatize any youngster I gave or read this book to.
I really liked the Danse Macabre treatment.

    WORTH CONSUMING!

I made a batch of this from David Lebovitz’s Perfect Scoop. As I tend to when I make his recipes, I reduced the sugar slightly. It turned out really well – very smooth, and with a nice hint of ginger. I thought there could’ve been more ginger flavour, as did a friend, but my wife and others have said there’s enough. Probably next time I make it I’ll embed candied ginger chunks as well.

A very enjoyable book (about the Plague – odd, but still) from Ms. Brooks. I enjoyed her writing style and use of the language, and I really liked the voice that she gave Anna.

While others have complained about the lack of character development, I didn’t find that there was a problem at all – the characters seemed to be fleshed out fairly well, and Anna’s development was one of the things that made this book.

I have to agree that the ending was a bit of a turn in another direction and certain aspects of it should’ve been omitted. Nevertheless, this remains an outstanding book, and I highly recommend it.

    WORTH CONSUMING!

Not flawless, but pretty good. Well-written, fast-paced, and entertaining. The world that’s Sanderson’s built doesn’t quite feel as real as, say, Midkemia, The Land, or even… umm… the world in The Wheel of Time books, but it’s got an acceptable established history, complete with evil empire that’s stood for a thousand years and needs to be overthrown.

The book felt in some ways like Robert Jordan’s works, which is probably a good thing given that Sanderson will finish The Wheel of Time.

There were a couple genuine surprises (well, for me) toward the end, and the whole thing felt like it was carefully plotted. Given that the other two books were supposed to have been written at the same time, I’ve high hopes for the rest of the series.

Mma Ramotswe continues to charm us – a fun and easy read. Already Gaborone is beginning to feel like home. The engagement thread, which I’d dreaded, is handled very nicely and fits very well with the established characters.

Pretty good. Some of the “big surprises” are less surprising than intended, I think, but the overall plot is pretty good. There are a few very good and thought-provoking speeches toward the end, and I’m left wondering what a more religious person than I am would think of them.
The artwork is fairly competent, with a few panels standing out.
