this book is meant to be read along with the rest of “the divine comedy” vol.2 “purgatorio” and vol.3 “paradiso”.it affected me tremedously.i own a copy translated by lawrence grant white and illustrated by gustave dore.this is one of my favorites.dante’s descriptions of hell,purgatory and heaven are lucid and vivid.gustave dore’s illustrating is also breath taking.other artists inspired by dante are botticelli,flaxman and blake
