A story about "The Wall Jumper: A Berlin Story (Phoenix Fiction Series)" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

(completed December 2004)

Assigned for GM161.1 (Berlin: A City Strives to Reinvent Itself) Fall 2002, but I just never got around to reading it. Took surprisingly long for being a short book, but thoroughly enjoyable.

A story about "Death in Venice: And Seven Other Stories" — 4 years ago

(completed December 2004)

Great story. I only read Death in Venice (not the seven other stories). I’d like to sometime, however. I didn’t know anything about Thomas Mann, and I’d say I was totally surprised.

A story about "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood: A Novel" — 4 years ago

I had to put this down. I found the style and story frustrating and cheesy.

A story about "Mirror Worlds: or the Day Software Puts the Universe in a Shoebox...How It Will Happen and What It Will Mean" — 4 years ago

Tom Dean gave this to me when I was in Providence. I really enjoyed the first chapter, but then decided I’d rather go back to reading fiction. I got all I wanted to out of it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

(completed October 2004)

Prof. Malone assigned the first five chapters in AC 153 (how the automobile has affected American culture). I finally got around to finishing it (thanks again to the shuttle). It was entertaining and a fairly easy read. I haven’t read other Faulkner, but I understand it is quite different.

A story about "Russian Debutante's Handbook" — 4 years ago

(completed January 20, 2005)

I have come to realize that I like books in which the protaganist struggles to reconcile his past and his current position in life. This book fits into that genre perfectly, and while it is no Ishiguro novel, it is entertaining, fun, and a little surprising.

A story about "Ocean In Iowa" — 4 years ago

(completed August 2004)

I found this on the shelf of my Berlin room (one of a few English language books). Seeing as I forgot until now that I had read it, it clearly didn’t blow me away.

A story about "You Shall Know Our Velocity" — 4 years ago

(completed February 10)

Excellent read. I enjoyed it more than HBW, because it’s not autobiographical and therefore not so self-indulgent. Certainly has an interesting twist to it.
