Why I recommend "Beowulf" — 1 year ago

I first watched this movie because it was playing in 3-D IMAX. Having read the book and a few newer derivative works on the story, I expected a history lesson or hokey cartoon. I was wrong! The film is an entertaining, action-packed, sometimes visually stunning work with some adult level themes. Great voice work by an all-star cast, and the animation was fairly realistic. I noticed that some scenes were edited from the IMAX version on the DVD.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Stylish, stylized redux of 60’s Doris & Rock movies. Fast paced and funny, with lots of witty dialogue, double-entendre, and sub-references. Guys: If you have to watch a “chick-flik,” this is a good pick.

Why I recommend ""A Confederacy of Dunces"" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is hilarious every time I read it. Like an O. Henry story or a Frank Capra movie, it is elegantly simple, yet tightly layered. Excellent characterization of the “Yats” in Old New Orleans. I have bought many copies of this book to re-read and then give away.

Why I recommend "Vicky Cristina Barcelona" — 1 year ago

Great insights into the mechanics of living with crazy women to be had here. Watching Bardem handle with these girls is a lesson in boyfriend skills that most men would profit from. It would be great to rent this movie in Spanish to negate the irritating narration.
