Just as awesome as PMP: Spanish Verb Tenses — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Seriously, Dorothy Richmond’s Spanish grammar books should be on every Spanish learner’s bookshelf, no matter what level of learning they are at. They’re organized with clear, straight-to-the-point explanations, and you’re spending LOTS of time practicing what you’re learned. There is an excellent “por vs. para” section. The book is surprisingly cheap too. I hope the author’s “Spanish Vocabulary” book is just as good as her grammar books.

Wish there was more.. I found it very entertaining, as entertaining as I find Family Guy and The Simpsons to be.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Lisa Delaney is the author of this book and she had struggled with her weight until she was in her late 20’s so she knows exactly how many women feel when they’re overweight. She knows about the insecurities and other issues that you have to deal with. She writes like she’s talking specifically to you and I love that. She guides you through different issues and ways to overcome them while losing weight and maintaining it. Her experiences are ones that I felt I could relate to, having gone through the same thing in my life, and her advice is logical and presented in a way that would get anyone motivated. Even people who feel like they have tried every diet and failed will be inspired by this book. I’m the kind of person who hardly finishes books in less than a week, but this I finished in 3 days. I thought it was that good. Any woman struggling with their weight should read this book. (Try your library if you don’t want to spend bucks! =)

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

I love the taste. I could eat one every week and not get sick of the taste. I just don’t think it’s worth it to eat one again because (unlike with many McDonald’s sandwiches now) this one contains trans fat which is the worst kind of fat that everyone should avoid in their diets completely. I wish BK would change like other restaurants are with the trans fat content!

easy and very interesting intro to the enneagram — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didn’t even know what “enneagram” meant before reading this! I did find it very interesting and I did learn about my personality and others by answering questions to the quizzes on different personalities. My dad is a “1” (perfectionist) His girlfriend a “9” (Peacemaker) and I’m “8” (Asserter) ...meaning I had the highest score in the asserter quiz. The book said that unlike 9’s and 1’s, 8’s readily express their anger. This is very true for me and I told my dad’s girlfriend and she was like, “Oh yeah I never express my anger outwardly”. Anyway, the book made me think! And I like that. Also, I love quizzes =)

The truths all people who want to lose weight should know about — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The book goes through 10 diet myths, the “kernels of truth” behind them and the entire truth afterward. The first is that you can’t lose weight and keep it off. It’s actually much easier to do this than it used to be decades ago because there have been more studies and experiments about the science of losing weight. (The failure rate for losing weight and keeping it off used to be around 95% in the 50’s!) There are many more programs these days that can help practically ANYONE lose weight and KEEP IT OFF. The major program the book goes over is Weight Watchers, which is one of the flexible programs many people have success with for years. There are other myths that people should be aware of that may be stopping them from losing weight, like “You can lose weight with exercise alone”. Many people overestimate how much exercise they are doing and how many calories it burns. Unless you change your diet, it’s extremely difficult, almost impossible to lose weight with increasing exercise alone. Another myth is that willpower is the key to weight loss. The truth is that willpower is just one part of the weight-loss equation and its role is often overrated. Having the “wrong metabolism and genes” is another big myth. The truth is that with the right knowledge, support, among other things, like 99% of us can lose weight and keep it off no matter what our genes are like. There are other myths like “There is only one right approach to losing weight”, “Your weight is your problem, and you need to solve it on your own”, “You can boost your metabolism by what, how, and when you eat”, “A few extra pounds don’t matter”, and “Calories Don’t Matter, avoid fats or carbs to lose weight successfully” I won’t go into detail about these, but overall the book is packed with information and it’s very interesting, educational and inspiring for people who are struggling with their weight. If you don’t want to spend bucks on it, I recommend getting it from your library!! Another book you may want to check out is “Thin For Life” by Anne M. Fletcher.

A review of "Thin for Life: 10 Keys to Success from People Who Have Lost Weight and Kept It Off" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this book on amazon.com because of the good reviews… I wanted something that I could read every time I felt like giving up on weight loss and it sure does help! There are many many stories and tips. This book was written by a dietitian and she has studied a group of people over years who have lost weight (at least 20lbs I think, up to over 100) and kept it off for years. These people all had their own ways of losing and maintaining because of course one method won’t work for everyone! I found the statistics and stories from people to be very interesting. Everyone knows you can’t be on a cabbage soup diet forever and the book shows how you can have balance in your life with food and still enjoy sweets, or anything in moderation, and you can see the different ways you can go about doing it. I’m sure I’ll read it again all the way through but right now I’m checking out other books on the same topic. I’m on Weight Watchers (which I had success with before, I lost 41 lbs four years ago, and right now I’m 25 pounds from my highest weight, which is alright because if I hadn’t joined WW I’m pretty sure I’d be MANY pounds over my highest weight)Anyway I think “Thin For Life” is worth getting if you want to lose 200 pounds or 2 pounds =D

I had very little knowledge of the spanish language before reading this… this was the first book I used for learning the language and it gave me a solid foundation with grammar and vocabulary. Lots of exercises and I actually found it fun! I got it because of the really good reviews on amazon.com. Very worth it =)
