I’ve read 5 of the Georgia Nicholson books. I like them as light reading between the other books I read that have more of a serious, mature and complex plot. These books make me smile and sometime laugh and I really enjoy the way Georgia writes and how spunky she is. Some girls will relate to her oddness! I will definitely make sure I get all the books.
I loved this book, it’s just as good as the other personal weight-loss story I read called “Secrets of a Former Fat Girl”. I love Jami Bernard’s style of writing and her sense of humor. She told her story and made it interesting, while giving tips of useful advice throughout the book. She lost 75 pounds in over 2 years, so her weight loss was slow but she wanted it that way, so that she could get used to the changes she made and make it part of her lifestyle. It’s true that slow weight loss is the way to go if you want to be able to maintain a healthy lifestyle and maintain your weight in the end. Jami goes into details about just how she went about losing weight and what she did to make changes in her life little by little (For example, when she was 230lbs, she would eat large amounts of full-fat ice cream. She then changed to frozen yogurt, saving hundreds of calories a day, and then finally after some months, switched to 50-calorie jello and didn’t end up missing her full-fat ice cream) She talks about her past and how she was offered free pizza for life at the age of twelve if she would “spend just one night” with the man who owned the place. (She was thin until her 30’s) She talks about incidents that happened when she was fat that might hit close to home for some people! Overall her story is really motivational, interesting, helpful, and just fun to read.
One of my favorites of the Little House series =D
One of my favorite little house books (and I read at least 15 in grade 5 and 6). I’ll have to read some of those again =D
Of course this story is about another wealthy couple. Both Mel and Peter have important jobs, kids, and houses at opposite ends of the country. He’s a doctor, she’s a news anchor and they meet because he agreed to perform heart surgery on a child and be interviewed by her. I won’t go into much detail but there are definitely things about the story I didn’t like… a few times things happen that seem VERY unlikely. Like things fall into place too easily and it is not realistic, and that’s kind of annoying. The characters got on my nerves after awhile. They seemed really stupid at times. (Especially one of Mel’s kids… dealing with her own pregnancy and relationship) At times there were other things going on and I could understand what the characters were going through and why they acted the way they did.
There were many unexpected parts, I liked the beginning and very end most (even if that part was predictable) Overall though, it was mediocre. Took me awhile to finish and I just wasn’t very intrigued to find out what would happen next. I like DS’s writing style in all her books but this one just wasn’t one of her best.
This book was written by the same woman who wrote “Magic Key to Spanish”. I read this one first and knew Magic Key had to be really good. This book (See it & Say it) focuses on vocabulary and simple sentences, which is nice because at the start, you don’t want to be presented with anything too complex, or too much stuff. I’d say if you want to travel to a Spanish-speaking country or something, get this book. If you are really serious about learning a lot of the Spanish language, Magic Key is where you should start (or read both books) Margarita Madrigal is great at presenting information! If you want some excellent review for grammar specifically, check out Dorothy Richmond’s books: her Spanish Verb Tenses book and Pronouns and Prepositions book are awesome.
LOADS of exercises, LOTS of grammar explained clearly, organized well. Dorothy Richmond is awesome. If you’re learning Spanish and you don’t have these two books, you should seriously consider buying them! You can get them new at a cheap price on amazon.com ($8.76 each!!) It’s an amazing price for all the information and practice you’ll be getting.
I never usually think as TV dinners as being healthy. So I’ve been avoiding them most of the time even though my dad decided to bulk up on 234989320 of them. I brought this outta the freezer and was surprised because there is zero trans fat, only 2.5 grams of saturated fat, 6 grams of fiber (!), and it’s only 240 calories. This is for what I would consider a nicely portioned meal (meaning there is not too much of anything but it can fill you) And you get turkey with sauce, peas, and potatoes. I don’t like peas by themselves so I mix ‘em with the potatoes and gravy and it’s all good. I think it’s a good, quick, and fairly healthy meal.
