Every movie ever produced about Vietnam, and just about every relevant postmodern war movie made since is in some way a reaction by its creators to this movie.

Listening to “After The Gold Rush” truly changed me life. I discovered this album (and I do mean album) the summer of 1978. I call it my “summer of freedom.”

After hearing Neil Young’s music actively for the first time, every other musical influence in my very young life up to that time was dead to me.

I still listen to “After The Gold Rush” regularly and when I do the songs take me to a place no other album or artist has been able to match. It’s a gray place, but it’s a good one.

Now ehenever I hear a single song, an album, a score, or see a performance by Neil Young, I can’t help but compare the experience to listening to “After The Gold Rush” to see how it measures up.

Long before I was even remotely religious this book made me see Jesus as not just some untouchable relic, but as someone who could be tangible. Yes, it is fiction and it should be treated that way, but who is to say Jesus can’t speak to us through the modern imagination of a novel?
