A review of "A Confederacy of Dunces (Evergreen Book)"

A Confederacy of Dunces (Evergreen Book)

by John Kennedy Toole

This book was given to me to read by a friend that raved about it, but I just found the main character to be mostly annoying. I was told that I am most likely the only person that feels this way, but you like what you like and I just couldn’t work up any kind of sympathy for the character. Maybe the brilliance of the book is that it is such an accurate portrayal of an self-centered idiot… Who knows? I’ve never said I was the last word in book reviews… I have a lot left to learn about life and literature.

Why I recommend "The People's Guide to Mexico (Peoples Guide to Mexico)"

The People's Guide to Mexico (Peoples Guide to Mexico)

by Carl Franz

Okay… This guy is just plain FUNNY, but informative at the same time. His book packs lots of information about his travels through Mexico and the related escapades. Good website as well… His travels are a blueprint of what I wish I could do but just can’t seem to get around to doing. I especially liked the section on health remedies. Need a home remedy for mosquitos and no see ums? Right here folks. If you have fallen in love with Mexico this is a must have!

Why I recommend "Dog Eat Dog"

Dog Eat Dog

by Jerry Jay Carroll

I was lent Dog Eat Dog and LOVED IT. Finished it in record time. (Sorta happens when you get pulled into a book.) The premise is great, you know… the usual… main character had been changed into a dog for his sort-of-bad past. Then add to it a little theme of “the great cosmic battle between God and Satan” or just plain ol’ good and evil for those who don’t want to put too specific a label on it. It’s bizarre, yet endearingly so. Give it a chance and I sincerely doubt you’ll be disappointed. The only problem I find is that it’s hard to find these books. My libraries didn’t carry it and I couldn’t find them at the large bookstores near where I live. Guess I’m gonna have to Amazon.com it to get the 1st book, Top Dog. Totally worth it, though.
