Shot in Matlock in Derbyshire, this is a very dark film. It’s one of those movies which hangs around in your thoughts for a couple of days afterwards.

Shane Meadows captures the whole vibe perfectly, including (startingly) what it’s like to take rather a lot of LSD.

This is a tale of revenge, which doesn’t glorify violence at all.

Sorry to go against the grain, but I’ve just read this, and thought it was a load of old cobblers. I think the problem is that it hasn’t stood the test of time.

I plays on 1980s paranoia over genetic engineering, and is predictable right to the end. Also, I found it all a bit sappy, and wanted to send Einstein to the dog pound by the middle of the book.

Probably good in the 80s, but looks very, very dated now.

Brilliantly researched, moving tale of human falability.

Rather like ‘Dusk Till Dawn’ in book form. Very funny in places, but a bit over simplistic, and not really worth the effort with hindsight.
