A story about "The Best Awful" — 2 years ago
Although this is a work of fiction, it’s the best description that I’ve read yet of what images and conversations go flashing through a person’s mind during a manic break.

It’s not that I hate this book, just that I wouldn’t read it again if I had the opportunity. I finished reading it, it was all right, but I guess I’m just not that into historical romances right now. I have recommended it to two of my friends who enjoy that genre, however, and both enjoyed this novel.
I had seen this in high school nearly twenty years ago and watched it again because I had forgotten much of it. Now I can appreciate the great work done by Scofield and Shaw. And I handn’t recognized the first time young Miss Vanessa Redgrave as Anne Boleyn!
Better than I expected. She comes across as a normal person with an extraordinary ability, rather than as someone who’s untouchable. She’s willing to share her setbacks as well as her achievements. I look forward to reading other books by her.
When this came out on vinyl back in May 1986 I bought a copy at Deadly Records (RIP) and loaned it to my friend Todd the Brilliant Genius, who got to interview PG a few years later. We both enjoyed the dancing chickens.
Checked this out of the library last Monday. Yup, in my GOP town, this movie is available for checkout at the library. It made my heart happy for 90 minutes esp. since Dee-Lite and Varla Jean Merman were in it. Remember back in the day when Varla Jean was doing shows downtown at George’s?
...I wouldn’t want to listen to this every day. Maybe the occasional Saturday night, getting-ready-to-go-party listen.
Tracks include Silent All These Years, Upside Down, Me And A Gun, and Thoughts. My fave is Upside Down, a great b-side that really should have made it on LE or UTP. But at least we have it on CD…
This was one of those albums that people insisted I needed to hear, but I hesitated because how many times are you recommended an album that turns out to be crap? But this one exceeded my expectations. I’m keeping it at the office to listen to if I need to be mellow (which lately is every day). Last night roygbiv was drifting through my head as I was falling asleep. Great stuff.
