A story about "The Sharing Knife, Volume Three: Passage" — 1 year ago

I love Bujold, I really do, but I’m starting to get tired of this. She excels at her art/craft, making it a joy to read her stories. But, but, but… I feel she spends too much time on world-building and not enough on story-building. Sure, this book explains a lot of intricacies of ground-work and concepts linked with it. Unfortunately, it makes the story watered-down (or bogged-down, even) with lengthy explanations of fictional concepts. It’s like The Hallowed Hunt, where I started skipping whole paragraphs after the first few chapters. Argh. Give me back Miles Vorkosigan and his action-filled adventures!

A story about "Dream Cream" — 1 year ago

I only used it a couple of times so far, but I like it! It’s easy to put on (that was my biggest fear, because I hate super-thick lotions that take ages to rub in) and it leaves my skin very smooth, but not greasy. I have yet to see any miracles I read about in reviews (skin is still spotty, cuts and bruises haven’t healed instantly), but I was only looking for a decent body lotion, not a miracle, so I have no gripes. :) The only thing I’m not too wild about is the smell – it reminds me of oatmeal (which is not surprising, considering the main ingredient is oat milk) and is rather… unexciting. It also covers up any residual scent from my shower gel, which is sad, because I have great smelling shower gels! :)

A story about "Herbal Essences Natural Volume" — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This shampoo leaves my hair all tangled up. If I want to at least try to comb it, I have to use conditioner! Normally I wouldn’t be so disgruntled with a shampoo, but I bought the cheapest shampoo in the store the other day, and it was 5 times better than Herbal Essences.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Well, I expected a much better movie. It was too long, too much stuff was squished into it, the Joker failed to impress me, and Bale as Batman was much better in “Batman Begins”.

A story about "Lord Valentine's Castle (Majipoor Cycle)" — 1 year ago

Ugh, I liked the main character less and less as the story progressed. Somehow I don’t see myself reading other books in this series!

A story about "The Big Sister's Guide to the World of Work: The Inside Rules Every Working Girl Must Know" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the second time I’m reading this book. Just like the first time, my (work-related) motivation has gone up as soon as I started reading this. It’s a wonderful, wonderful book that I can’t recommend enough. It has lots of practical advice and many of those silly “duh” things that you learn through your own mistakes. I wish I could’ve read this when I just started working! ~And I wish I could make every girl in my office read it too, so I could work in a more pleasant environment. ;) ~

A story about "Sex and the City (Movie) [Theatrical Release]" — 1 year ago

Let’s for a moment forget the fact that this movie is basically a 2-and-a-half hours long advertisement for all kinds of stuff and the consumer-oriented lifestyle. (Let’s also forget the sometimes hideous fashion choices.) The basic message of the movie is to be yourself, be a good friend, and listen to your heart. I can’t find any faults with that.

WORTH CONSUMING!
An interesting book. It helped me to:
  1. realize I’m usually (over)eating when bored – heh, time to stir things up at work, I guess… I can’t keep consuming 80% of my daily calorie intake in the 8 hours I’m at work :P
  2. discover that yes, I have a major case of “famine brain”, but I can overcome my cravings with an atmosphere of abundance
2.1 while learning about my famine brain, discover that I can live for days, even weeks, maybe even months? with a whole bag of Snickers bars in my cupboard without scarfing them down (trust me, this is big)
  3. discover that my body is indeed a scared, scarred, wary prey animal – case in point: today I started eating chocolate as soon as I thought about losing some weight before summer, and I stopped eating as soon as I realized I don’t have to give up any favorite foods, just eat a little better/smarter
  4. think more about non-food nourishment – inspired by entries here, I’ve made a list of 100 things that make me happy, besides money and food – so now when my body goes “candy! candy! candy!”, I can go “hey, lookie here”, and my body goes “oooh pretty” and forgets about candy ;)
  5. pay more attention to my body and stress levels – sometimes you just have to spend a weekend in bed with a book or just listening to the rain

I can’t say it magically transformed my life forever, but it made me aware of some things, and that’s all I ask from the books I read. :)

A story about "Baby Face" — 1 year ago

Ok, it removes makeup, it leaves my skin feeling very soft, but, unfortunately, my skin doesn’t really like it (and keeps giving me the message through breakouts).

A story about "Imperialis" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

My verdict: oh yes! People have complained about the smell and the texture. Ok, it has a certain smell that not everyone is going to like. I call it “old-lady smell”, although that’s neither correct nor nice. :P But it does remind me of my great-grandma, and I loved my great-grandma, so I like the smell. :) The texture is really runny, a lot more than what I’m accustomed to with creams, but, like the smell, I like this. It makes it easier to spread around.
