A story about "Roomba Intelligent Floorvac Robotic Vacuum" — 3 weeks ago

I had a Roomba 560 for 3 days on a loan, and it was great! No stray hairs, dust, crumbs… And all of this happening without me ever lifting a finger! (Ok, I lie. I used my finger to press the “Clean!” button.)

So, yes, after much deliberating and pointed ignoring of the old-school clunky vacuum in the closet, I decided to bite the bullet and ordered a shiny new Roomba 530.

I received it today and can’t plug it in because I need an AC adapter. But after that final hurdle, woot! No more vacuuming for me! Yay!

A story about "Jimmy's Food Factory" — 3 weeks ago

Science series in which farmer Jimmy Doherty asks what really goes into supermarket food.

It’s fascinating, but it also makes me vow I’ll never eat anything store-bought again. I better stop watching it while I can still find things I want to eat. :P

A story about "Refuse to Choose!: Use All of Your Interests, Passions, and Hobbies to Create the Life and Career of Your Dreams" — 4 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didn’t really find the “you’re a scanner and it’s ok” talk very helpful. My Reward is finding out how something is done and if I can do it – usually, as soon as I know that I’m capable of doing something, I lose interest. That leads to very few finished projects and when I do finish them, it’s through ‘blood, sweat and tears’. The book tells me to accept this, to accept that I won’t finish many projects (or that I’ll do a “Scanner’s Finish”), but I can’t! I want to have something to show for my interests, to be good at all those things, it’s just so bloody hard to follow through and actually do things that I know I can do.
Meh. Maybe it’s just my current state of mind and I’d feel better about this if I’d read it at some other time.

OTOH, at least it gave me a name for my life strategy (having a “Good Enough Job”) and told me it’s ok not to find a perfect job. :)

PS. For further reference, I’m probably a “Sybil”-type, with some “Jack-of-all-trades” sprinkled on top.

I’d finish this audiobook much faster if I could just find my mp3 player!!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Definitely different from the mainstream/Hollywood idea of SF.

A story about "Il etait une fois La Vie - La fabuleuse histoire du corps humain (Original French Version)" — 11 weeks ago

Aaaah, nostalgia. I used to watch this in school. It tied in well with my biology classes and made things much clearer and easier to understand. It’s nice to remember all those things again.

A story about "Shaun the Sheep" — 11 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I took a long, long time to consume this, because I didn’t want to stop watching it! I just couldn’t bring myself to watch the last episode and know that “I’m done now”. But silly me, nobody said I couldn’t start over from the first episode when I’m done with the last one! So now I’m watching it again. :)

A story about "How Music Works with Howard Goodall" — 12 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was brilliant! Made me want to dig out my music theory notes from waaaay back when I was learning to play classical guitar.

A story about "Masala Bhangra Workout, Vol. 1: Funky Style" — 14 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Whooo, this was fun! I tried this on a whim, having no experience with Indian culture, especially not dancing, but the Youtube clips for bhangra workouts looked so full of energy and joy, I had to try it myself. I can’t do the routine properly or even follow the whole video in my current shape, but boy oh boy, did I enjoy myself! Anything that makes me this happy while exercising gets extra super triple bonus points in my book.

That being said, I can see how this video wouldn’t work for some people. The instructor’s voice can be a bit grating (I prefer to see it as strong and commanding ;) plus I kinda like those “op! op!” sounds she’s making) and the music repetitive (hey, it’s easier to get into a dancing/exercising trance that way), some moves are complicated and the pace is fast, the production is minimalistic (looks like they pulled some stuff out of a closet, booked the local amateur theater for one morning and shot the video with a home camera) but who cares, as long as it works. :)
