A story about "Snow Falling on Cedars: A Novel" — 6 years ago

Can’t say I particularly like Guterson’s writing style, but this book seems to have received a lot of praise, so I’m going to stick it out and see if it gets better.

Edited to add: It got better. Guterson’s writing didn’t change much, but I grew accustomed to it, and after a while the story really drew me in. This was the first time in a while that I stayed up till the wee hours of a morning to finish a book.

A story about "I Wish I Had a Red Dress" — 6 years ago

I was disappointed with this book. It was a sequel to “What Looks Like Crazy on an Ordinary Day” and it felt to me like it was almost identical to that book in all the major plot points. Ava the HIV-infected protaganist of the first book is absent from this book, and her place as main character is taken by Joyce, her widowed elder sister. Apart from that the story arcs were so similar as to hardly make a difference.

A story about "Timeline" — 6 years ago

So I went to the cinema and I saw a trailer for the movie “Timeline” and I thought, “Man, that looks like crap.” And then I went to the library and I saw the book the movie was based on, and since I wanted a long, but easy to read, novel, I decided to give it a try. So far it’s been a fun read (although it would be a big stretch to call it a “good” book). I might even go see the movie, to see how it translates to the screen.

A story about "The Salt Eaters" — 6 years ago

Finally finished it! I think I’d read it again, just because the second go-round would probably be easier, and more enjoyable, than the first.

A story about "Goodnight Mister Tom (New Longman Literature)" — 6 years ago

A book, set in England during WWII, about a crusty old widower (with a heart of gold, of course) who takes in a battered little boy who’s been evacuated from London. This book was lovely. Tragic in parts, but altogether lovely.

The best movie of the three, the best book of the three.

A story about "24 Hours" — 5 years ago

Like John Grisham, sort of, but worse. I don’t know why I bothered to finish it, because it had me rolling my eyes from about the second paragraph. At least it was a quick read.
