A story about "Zombieland" — 3 years ago

I preferred Shaun of the Dead. There was a lot more gore in this movie. The zombies were scarier, more realistic and just generally gross. And they ran fast, too! One of the funniest parts of the movie happens in the beginning with Columbus’ wacky survival list. There are parts that will make you want to cover your eyes or look away. Not because they are scary, but because they will make you cringe. Most of that is in the beginning, too. There’s enough of comedy relief in this one for it not to be a horror movie, but just barely. Even the pairing of Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenburg (who reminds me of Michael Cera a little bit) is enough of a strange duo to make you chuckle.

It kinda leaves you hanging, doesn’t really tie anything up at the end. And now I know why…

They’re already making a Zombieland 2.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was a last minute decision, but I was one of those nuts that watched it at midnight on opening night. I’m surprised I did because I’m not that obsessed with the books/movies, but I enjoyed it all the same. You could tell the budget was larger than the first one. I really enjoyed the werewolf scenes and wished there were more. I also enjoyed the tension between Jacob and Bella throughout the entire movie. I’m sad to see the last of Rachelle Lefevre (Victoria) in this movie. There was only one scene of her in this one, with the werewolves in the forest. She didn’t even have any lines.

I found the new vampire contacts a little distracting. They were overly bright. I thought Dakota Fanning did a good job as Jane. She was believable as a sadistic little vampire.

You also get a glimpse of Bella as a vampire running in the forest with Edward which was mega cheesy, so cheesy that the entire theater of people I was in, laughed.

Overall, I liked it and would watch it again.

A story about "Four Christmases" — 3 years ago

Parts of the movie were funny, but not hilarious. I felt like there was so much missing to the movie. I didn’t like the coupling of Reese Witherspoon and Vince Vaughn. I’m not sure if I believe the rumors that Reese doesn’t like Vince, but there was just NO chemistry between the two. I felt like this movie had so much potential but it didn’t reach it. I was waiting for more humor, more funny antics, more stereotypical nonsense (think the white trash nonsense at Brad’s dad’s house), just MORE of SOMETHING! I would have been mad if I spent $$$ on this seeing it in the theater. But it was just okay. Not something I’d want to see again.

A story about "The X-Files: I Want to Believe (Single-Disc Edition)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

First of all, I’m an old X-Files addict. I watched the show religiously for years and had a lot of episodes on tape, yes TAPE! I feel that the movies fall short of the series. I think that there were huge mistakes on both movies and that they should have followed the same story/plot line as the show. I would have liked to have seen this 2008 movie wrap up the series for good. Unless they are thinking of bringing it back. I would have liked the movie to have taken up where the series ended. Maybe given us some answers like where Samantha is, where William (Mulder and Scully’s son) is, etc. The movie seemed like it would have made an excellent 2-part episode for the series, but not exactly what I was hoping for an X-Files movie to be about.

I am however glad that those two are still together and that they handled it the way they did by not getting those two really together until the series was on its way out. “The thrill is in the chase, never in the capture.”

Be sure to watch through the credits because you will get one last glimpse of Mulder and Scully!

At Bertram's Hotel — 3 years ago

My first Agatha Christie novel and I’m a bit disappointed. It’s a bit of a boring read and I feel it’s cut a little too short. Everything kind of happens in the last few pages and is slightly confusing. Miss Marple plays a small part in this book and an apparently rather dumb chief of police solves what ends up being a complex scheme.

So yeah, I wasn’t too impressed, but I won’t let it deter me from reading any of her other novels.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I really enjoyed this book. I thought of the movie, Practical Magic while reading this book. It’s similar in the fact that they are stories of two adult sisters, raised by women that were not their mothers and have gifts and talents that the average person does not. There’s also a bad guy which is the story’s antagonist, but I’m glad the author didn’t focus on that too much. Overall, it’s a light-hearted book and while pretty much predictable, it was enjoyable. It even involves a tree that has human-like mannerisms and feelings!

A story about "Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Glad this is over. I read it just to read it to say that I have. I found it mildly entertaining at best. Meyer overuses so many words and phrases in these books that it got on my nerves. The books (with the exception of Twilight) are very anticlimactic as nothing happens until the last 100 pages or so. And my overall impression with Bella is that she’s very annoying.

A story about "Eclipse" — 3 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

This book was pretty much useless and didn’t need to be included in the series at all. Like with all the other books in the Twilight series, there’s a small catalyst talked about in the beginning, it drags on for HUNDREDS of pages in the middle and the action doesn’t start until the last 100 pages or so. How many times do I have to read how “marble-like” Edward’s skin is? And furthermore our protagonist, Bella, is rather annoying.

A story about "Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse/True Blood, Book 1)" — 4 years ago

I found the writing to be a bit cheesy and geared towards younger people (I’m 29) with the exception of the intimate scenes between Sookie and Bill. This is one of the very few times where I feel that the adaptation is better than the book. I much prefer the True Blood series on HBO than I did reading the book. There’s more substance to the characters and I love the addition of Tara and Lafayette.

Twists and turns and twists and turns. You may figure them out, you may not.

This is worth watching.
