Devil Bones: A Novel

by Kathy Reichs

If you’ve read Temperance Brennan books before this one starts with a lot of tedious back story. Please Ms. Reichs, next time cut to the chase. Not one of her better efforts in my opinion. Tempe is amazingly slow-witted about one aspect of the mystery, which if you’ve read a lot of mystery plots as I have you’ll figure out long before she does!

A wonderfully complicated plot, exceedingly well-drawn characters, along with insight into the minds of teenage girls made me empathize with these characters and want to know exactly how tragedy befell them.

It’s very didactic like Struwelpeter but it has the disadvantage of being a whole lot longer. I suppose at the time of the publication of this book a lot of the children reading or being read to had daily experience with horses and benefitted from all the lessons on treating them kindly.
