A story about "Design Like You Give a Damn: Architectural Responses to Humanitarian Crises" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Lots of provocative good ideas in here. Not much detail, not comprehensive, but a fast interesting wide-ranging scan of more than just architectural design responses to crises.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Helpful collection about how culture works and is considered in development work. I put this on the interlibrary loan list via my school library for future referencing.

A story about "The Anarchist In The Library: How the Clash Between Freedom and Control Is Hacking the Real World and Crashing the System" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I love how Vaidhyanathan thinks and writes. As a culture lover, sharer and consumer, as well as a scholar of how ideas flow, encounter friction, or are constrained – he’s got the historical, social, political and economic analyses all firing at once. I’m buying this one too.

(And trying to remember who I gave my copy of copyrights and copywrongs – his excellent book on the history and social/political context of copyright – to)

A story about "The Sustainability Revolution: Portrait of a Paradigm Shift" — 2 years ago

I had to return this to the library before I got to it. I think it has some value as a kind of map of principles and projects. Will keep it on the reference list for class.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I need to be reading this book at the beach, or by the pool. Somewhere outside, in the sun.

A story about "Diminished Democracy: From Membership to Management in American Civic Life" — 2 years ago

(among other things) a critique of Robert Putnam and the local, apolitical and decentralized social capitalism that he advocates. also a caution about the regressive impacts of the current government’s encouragement of faith-based participation in public funding to perform social service work, previously housed in the public arena.
