Cute characters! — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was my second Meg Cabot book (the first being The Princess Diaries, of course), and I have to say she’s really got a way of making her characters lovable even with their flaws. Poor Heather is kind of a psycho, but we understand why and we love her. I loved the setting of the dorm—oops, I mean residence hall—since I worked in one in college. I have to admit, I was a little put off my the suggestion running throughout the book that size 12 really IS fat (mostly because, hey, I’M a size 12), but then I read the bio on the back that Meg Cabot, skinny thing that she is, was once a size 16. And, for some reason, that made me feel better about the whole thing.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Dark heroes are hard to write. Really. They usually come across as brooding and temper-tantrum-y. That said, I really liked Christina Dodd’s brooding hero in this book, mostly because he wasn’t a brooder by the end. Fun story with cute characters. I enjoyed it.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Firefly - The Complete Series" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I had to rerent Disc 2 because the Disc 2 I had was messed up. Anyway, I’m through Disc 3 and on to Disc 4. Husband and I LOVE it so far. Favorite line: “Also, I can kill you with my brain.”

WORTH CONSUMING!

I wanted a good vampire read to get into the Halloween spirit and this was a good one. Cute but not too dark. I got the teensiest bit annoyed with the heroine by the end of the book, but that could just be because the love triangle didn’t work out the way I wanted it to. Big burly blonde guys are SO much cuter than dark brooding ones. But anyway. Good, fun, and cute.

Fun, cute — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Fun and cute summer read. It had the tendency to push the cliches to the very, very edge before backing off and saying “just kidding.” At first, it made me nervous, but I was used to it by the end of the book and it was actually kind of charming.

She gets it. — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Aiee! I loved it! So cute and funny and smart and, wow, someone else who’s, like, not 14 anymore remembers HOW IT WAS. Because, you know, even though I wasn’t, like, a princess or anything, I was totally flat-chested and tall with bad hair. Meg Cabot GETS IT. She gets it without talking down and without making the heroine dumb. Go Meg Cabot!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Here’s a completely unrelated aside (which I guess isn’t really an aside or a footnote or anything because asides and footnotes are inherently not unrelated, but anyway): If you look over on my All Consuming sidebar, you’ll see I’m currently reading The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot. It’s so. good. If you don’t have a copy, go get one. Now. I mean it. I might just have to buy the entire series so I can pretend I’m a 14-year-old princess for the rest of my freakin’ life (because there are like a zillion books in the series and it will take me that long to read them all). As another aside (an honest-to-goodness related one this time), I heard Meg Cabot speak at conference this year, and I keep hearing her read the book in my head. She seriously talks just like she writes. It’s too funny. She’s great. I love her. I want to be her when I grow up, with some Sabrina Jeffries and Claudia Dain mixed in. I’ll be a regular Frankenstein’s romance writer monster. She’s alive! Aliiiiiiive!

Why I gave up consuming "Seduced by Magic" — 3 years ago

I only got 26 pages in before I decided I could no longer waste my time on this.

Skye wanted it, so I’m giving it to her, even though I hate to inflict pain upon my friends.

Great Characters! — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was by far my favorite Sabrina Jeffries book yet. I admit I’m a little biased because I love redemption stories, and Simon needed some redeeming. Both characters, Simon and Louisa, were so well-developed I can’t imagine knowing them any better in the span of a novel. Simon was one of the best heroes I’ve read in a while and Louisa was very lovable. If you’re a fan of Sabrina Jeffries, don’t miss this one!

WORTH CONSUMING!

Super cute and a fun read. Doesn’t every girl hope she’s so ordinary she’s weird? Maybe it’s just me.
