A story about "The Puttermesser Papers: A Novel" — 6 years ago
Part of my Golem Reading Streak, this one is about a female Golem and a utopian NYC, (a theme that is also present in Golems of Gotham, oddly.)

When I finished this book, I was disappointed that there was nothing left to read.
The story is good but the writing is overwrought. Basically, Rosenbaum uses this book as a vehicle for his own condemnation of our society and our treatment of the Holocaust as a historical and emotional event. Very few people can use a novel as a tool for broad, social commentary and Ayn Rand is one of them. This guy is no Ayn Rand, I can tell you that.
My favorite thing about this book is that Ravitch is non-partison. She finds fault with both the right and the left…you wouldn’t think the left would be in the enemy camp in a censorship fight but they are!
As I read this book, I can begin to imagine how my mother feels about our cottage at the cape, with all the kids running underfoot and being ever demanding. No wonder she likes this book. I can recognize our brood in Shulman’s recollections of vacationing with her family.
funny as all hell but in a dry, Sedaris kind of way and darker…much darker and pathetic.
This better be good. Good in Bed was good. Can this book top it? I doubt it but it could be a close second.
Ooh, so good and perfect for my anticipated trip to Africa next year.
