WORTH CONSUMING!

I cried. I cheered. I laughed. I was amazed!
This is a worthy end to a wonderful series. I can’t wait to sit down and read them all back to back now. And….We still have the last two movies to look forward to!!

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

So-I know that I will probably be stoned to death for saying this but…What the heck is all the fuss about over this book?

Although I found some of the magickal elements to be interesting the overall plot fell flat. I was very nearly bored to tears after the first few pages but pushed on in hopes that the story would live up to all the hype that it has garnished since it’s made-for-TV debut. I finished the last page feeling the same as I had after the first. What was the point?

I suppose that I understood the overall themes.

Ged’s journey to destroy the shadow was really him seeking to destroy the darkness within himself. The obstacles that he met with could represent the roadblocks that we all face as we journey through life seeking to find our true selves. Both love and hate for himself and others presented real working motives to destroy himself along with the ever nearer monster that stalks him. And I am guessing that the moral of the story is that we must face our bad side in an effort to become the good we seek.

Really I feel that I am drawing a lot out of a story that amounts to very little.

In short, I found the writing style less than captivating, the plot a bit trite and the conclusion predictable.

WORTH CONSUMING!

But be prepared that it is very different from the film. Very touching, very sweet and very worth your time.

The movie is fun too... — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

In fact, this book is based on the movie which was based on a short story so…Watch the movie! The book is okay but it kind of drags along a bit and seems to rely on the fact that you have most likely seen the movie.

Book vs. Movie — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Don’t get me wrong-I liked the book. I usually like the book a lot more than the movie. In fact, I’m the one that always tells people that they just have to read the book when they say they love this or that movie.

However….

This may be the one time I will say that I liked the movie better than the book. The movie had a warmth to it. The storyline followed a path and felt both real and unreal at the same time. The book was sort of all over the place and I didn’t feel for any one of the characters. I gave it 3 stars because I enjoyed reading it but I would not recommend it to a friend.
