A story about "The Spiral of Memory and Belonging: A Celtic Path of Soul and Kinship" — 4 years ago

The author makes a number of intriguing suppositions about Celtic and pre-Celtic spiritual practice. It’s a dense, intellectual read but rewarding to those who, like me, have a pre-existing interest in all things Celtic.

A story about "Rough Magic: A Biography of Sylvia Plath" — 4 years ago

It all depends whose side you’re on at the end of the day, doesn’t it? If you lean more towards Plath than Hughes for any reason, then this is the biography for you. It’s well-written, hugely engrossing – I suspect so even for those who come to it knowing nothing about Sylvia and her amazing poetry – and it dishes up some real dirt on Hughes and his family. A cracking good read about a poet who died before her time and was, indeed, the poet of the 20th century in my opinion. If it wasn’t for Sylvia, I’d never have started writing poems. So blame her. It’s okay, you can – she committed suicide in 1963. And many of us know who drove her to that, don’t we?

A story about "Anti-Gay" — 4 years ago

This is a wonderful book that takes apart the wafer-thin artificiality of what constitutes the suffocating, limiting construct which is called the gay ‘scene’. Ruby slippers are fantastic in my view – but they don’t suit everybody, you know?

A story about "Mothman and Other Curious Encounters" — 4 years ago

Scary sh-sh-sugar, this. If you don’t believe in the possibility of extra-dimensional beings actively involving themselves in the affairs of humanity, then you’re fine to go to bed alone reading this with a mug of cocoa. If, though, like me you have an inkling there’s more to life than science will own up to, then this book of strange encounters with weird beings will disturb you far more than any silly horror movie you care to name. Why? Because it’s real. Well, it might be. Who can say for sure? Read it and decide for yourself!

A story about "Evolutionary Witchcraft" — 4 years ago

A truly revolutionary book about the spiritual and devotional disciplines which underpin the Reclaiming Feri branch of witchcraft. This is a book which helps you to unlock the potential of the greatest magickal tools of them all: your own sacred body and mind. It will help you to transform your life for the good of yourself and others.

A story about "The Cosmic Tribe Tarot" — 4 years ago

The appeal of any given Tarot pack is always going to be dependent on individual taste, but as far as I’m concerned, the Cosmic Tribe Tarot is utterly brilliant. It’s insightful, witty and positive in outlook. The cards are all utterly beautiful, each one a collage of real people on computer graphic backgrounds. These cards appeal to the eye enormously. The Cosmic Tribe Tarot is inclusive, too, with three variations of The Lovers card – male/female, male/male and female/female. You certainly can’t accuse the people who created this set of heterosexist conformity, that’s for sure. It isn’t a pack I would readily recommend to anybody new to the Tarot but if you’re looking for a gorgeous and inspirational Tarot pack, this one fits the bill.

A story about "Life's Daughter/Death's Bride" — 4 years ago

This book discusses the inner transformations which can spring from working with the Goddess Demeter/Persephone. If you’re going to be attending Avalon Witchcamp near Glastonbury this August, you’d do well to get hold of this book because we will be working with Demeter/Persephone. If you’re not attending but are interested in how Goddess spirituality can bring healing and insights, then again this is a book I wholeheartedly recommend.

A story about "Spiral Dance, The - 20th Anniversary: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Goddess: 20th Anniversary Edition" — 4 years ago

If you want to find out more about Goddess spirituality and the Reclaiming community, this is the book you should get hold of. Be warned: it can change your life forever.
