A story about "Pig's Feet" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The first time I had pig’s feet was with my mother in a generic, tourist trap, Alsacien restaurant on the Champs-Elysées. They were burnt and quite bad all around.

Big Head Todd has always been one of my favorite bands. Everything they do is excellent and original. However, they are best appreciated live!

Why I recommend "Team Boo" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is quite possibly my favorite MoS album. I think it’s just an ever so small amount better than Bring it Back.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I grew up a huge fan of the original with Gene Wilder. I loved that one! Still do. And because of that, I was reluctant to see this version. Before seeing it, I had the idea that Johnny Depp’s character was creepy and just not right.

However, then someone reminded me that in the book, Willy Wonka was not the lovable Gene Wilder, but a man who despised children. This openned me up a bit to the Depp portrayal.

In addition to the acting, you’ve got to love the world that Tim Burton creates. I love the fact that they talked in dollars yet paid with British pounds. Was that so that the younger American children would better understand or simply to make the setting that much more unique? I don’t know. But I like it!

...but I found them not very filling. I ate two of them and had to go looking for something more. Plus, I didn’t have any sauce with them and they were a bit dry due to this.

A question I have about "Guinness" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

At the bar last night, there was this funny contraption on the bar. It said Guinness but had nothing from which to pour the famous meal in a glass (see photo). So, we asked the bartender how it worked.

He pulled out a glass and a can of Guinness (I know, a can! A sacrilege!) Anyway, he poured it into the glass. Now this does not produce the grey, brown cloud that we’re all familiar with. It was the simple dark black. The bartender then put the glass on the silver dish in the photo (there was a very small amount of water in the dish), pushed a button and then suddenly…

...the glass clouded up in swirls as though it was being poured directly from the tap. He let it sit there for a bit as the colors changed and swirled around themselves. It was really cool to watch.

Then he served the glass. Apparently, it wasn’t that bad.

After my first pint of lager, I decided to try it. Same procedure, however, I don’t think he left it swirl enough. Anyway, the taste was nothing like from the tap and, actually, quite disgusting. It also didn’t have the thickness of a real Guinness. Basically, to me it was just a gimmick!

Has anyone else seen this way of serving a Guinness?

A review of "Still Crazy" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The tragic, genius guitarist, the egotistical and fragile front man, the resentment from the rest of the band, and years of animosity. Heard this before? Yeah, so many times. The only thing that could have made this film was great music. Still Crazy has all the former but little of the latter.

It was only slightly entertaining. If you want a real rock film, see the original: This is Spinal Tap.

A story about "Sounds to Make You Shiver!" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this (well my mom did) on vinyl back when I was probably 9 years old. I would put it on the phonograph, lie on the living room carpet on my back and listen to side one, “A Night in a Haunted House”. It was a tour of a haunted house using only sounds. It’s an amazing imagination stimulator.

I just found this online and downloaded it. Maybe I’ll lie on my back tonight and scare myself silly.

A review of "Halloween: 20th Anniversary Edition - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve seen a lot of scary films: thrillers, horror, slasher, etc. And to this day, there is music that can still scare me as much as the minimalistic genius of John Carpenter’s Halloween theme. It embodies The Shape (Michael Myers) and his movement. Or is it the calm yet anxious heart beat one might feel being chased by a man who only walks?

This soundtrack lets you relive the 1978 classic with various dialogues and of course the music.
