Perhaps due to a poor script, though. The premise and plot were too far-fetched for my taste.

A story of friendship and much more.

A shit review, but I’m still wiping away the tears.

Coupled with the music of Eric Serra (Besson’s fetish composer), an amazing and captivating atmosphere is created throughout the film.

This film was very much worth it! An excellent mystery.

After 15 years without contact, members of a French resistance network during World War II re-unite to learn that there was a traitor among them who had informed the Gestapo of their location resulting in the death of their leader. Everyone had a motive. Everyone is a suspect. Just when you think they’ve uncovered the traitor, more secrets are revealed to absolve them. It keeps you guessing until the end.

Despite having started the second novelette, I didn’t finsih it. I lost the book on a plane somewhere. I hate losing things! I might get this again anyway and finish the other two stories. I was loving them! But in any case, I’ll mark it as completed.

This is the first Raymond Chandler book I’ve read and I find his style amazing. The descriptions and similes are excellent. Occasionally, I had to re-read, stop and think about the connections. One word describes the main character, Philip Marlow: attitude. He’s got a Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca style except a bit harder and even better one-liners: “I was neat, clean shaved and sober, and I didn’t care who knew it.”

I’ve started reading the second novel in the book, Farewell, My Lovely, which starts even stronger than the last one.

In the end, apart the details, each story is the same. It comes down to lies, broken promises and exploitation by the whites.

As I said before, it can be hard to follow at times with all the locations names and the moving around the American Indians were forced to do. A map of the period for the concerned areas would have been very helpful in understanding the events.

A story about "Before the Frost: A Linda Wallander Mystery"

The style is very easy to read. But the tone of the characters is very interesting as an American with Swedish heritage. You really pick up on the Swedish temperment. And while I did get this sense reading it on my own, it was confirmed by my Swedish friend, who also lent me the book in the first place.
