I rented a beach house from friends back in the winter of 1990, and this book was on their shelves. I picked it up when the long cold nights and the drizzly days exhausted the books I brought along.
I still have vivid flashes of memory of sections from the book.
I am pretty tenacious, and will usually persevere with a book. I was unable to finish this one, however – I was not particularly engaged in the first place and when a sequence of vivid descriptions became particularly off-putting, I gave up.
I borrowed the book from the library for the first read, and found it so hard-hitting I bought a copy the first chance I had.
About midway through, but have been for a while.
I’m reading an electronic copy on my iPaq, but changing environment have seen me use it less frequently.
The published price of this book is Rs. 95- in India (around $2.00) If you have access to an Indian store, you are likely to pay around $5.00 for the book. The Amazon price of $27.50 is an outrage.
