Excellent Mystery Set in Alaska — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Second mystery in the Kate Shugak series. At the end of a long Alaskan winter, most of the residents of Alaska’s Outback are more than ready for the spring thaw. When one of the locals goes on a killing spree and shoots nine of his neighbors, the police discover that one of the victims had already been murdered by someone else. Kate gets involved to find out who killed Lisa Getty. I love these stories, such a great setting and also lots of Native Alaskan lore included.

A review of "The Summer Hideaway (The Lakeshore Chronicles)" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Seventh story in the Lakeshore Chronicles. George Bellamy, recently diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor, returns to Camp Kioga to reconcile with his brother, from whon he has been estranged for 55 years. A wonderful, but bittersweet story.

Very Funny! — 2 years ago

Seventh book in the Jaine Austen series. I laughed out loud on this one, where Jaine Austen is hired to re-write her high shool friend’s wedding vows in the style of ROmeo and Juliet.

Excellent Mystery Combines Genealogy and Murder — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Missouri genealogist Torie O’Shea looks into the death of her great-grandfather, who died fifty years ago. Torie had always been told that her Great-Grandpa Nate died “in a hunting accident”, but she receives an anonymous mailing of newspaper clippings about the death which suggest that Granpda Nate was murdered. Torie tries to sniff out the truth, all the while worrying that she is going to find out one of her own family members is a murderer.

Great story with excellent characters!

This mystery was set in 1569 in the time of Queen Elizabeth’s rule. Great story!

Excellent Mystery! — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is the second book in the Tories O’Shea mystery series. In this story, small-town Missouri genealogist Torie O’Shea investigates the suspicious death of town resident Marie Dijon. Marie was found dead at the foot of her stairs, but the police are beginning to wonder if her death was really an accident. Along the way, Torie find a package of mysterious letters in French hidden in Marie’s house. I really enjoyed the mystery and the mix with French history.

The Year of Fog — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book opens as Abby Mason (a San Francisco photographer) is taking her six-year-old soon-to-be-stepdaughter Emma for a walk along Ocean Beach in San Francisco. Abby looks away from Emma for a moment to snap a photo, and when she looks back, Emma has disappeared. At first, the police want to call Emma’s disappearance a drowning, but Abby and her fiance Jake are conviced otherwise. What follows is a year-long search to find the missing girl. This was an amazing story of hope on Abby’s part. I really enjoyed it!

Funny Story about Surviving Divorce — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’ve enjoyed reading Crazy Aunt Purl’s blog about life and knitting in Los Angeles. So when this book came out, I wanted to read it. I would say it is more about surviving her divorce than about knitting. Lauri’e humor shines though, though, and I really enjoyed her story. The book also includes instructions for about 20 cute knitting projects, including a couple by other knitting designers.
