WORTH CONSUMING!

I read through this book as a child and it impacted me greatly. Ever since then, I’ve looked for simple ways to change my habits and routines so as to impact the environment less.

A story about "The War Prayer (Harper Colophon Books)" — 5 years ago

It doesn’t take long to read—maybe 20-30 minutes. Be sure the read the excerpt from Twain’s biography in the first pages. It really puts it in perspective.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m a firm believer that adults can enjoy most “children’s books.” This is one of those books. I never read it as a child but I read it a few years ago as an adult and loved it. This book proves that a scientific and spiritual mind can indeed live together in one body.

If you read this book and enjoy it, check out the next two books in the series—A Wind in the Door and A Swiftly Tilting Planet.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I’m generally not into “science fiction” but this isn’t your typical science fiction. Bradbury painted such a vivid image of a world without books that it sent chills up my spine. What’s even scarier, though, is that I see this world starting to come to life in the US, thanks to a shoddy piece of legislation passed after the recent terrorist attacks. Did you know the government can go to any library and demand to see a list of everyone who’s checked out a certain book?

I guess it’s not that bad…as long as none of us want to learn anything about the religion of Islam.

A story about "The Girls' Guide to Hunting and Fishing" — 5 years ago

I strongly identified with the main character and her relationships, so of course I loved the book. If you’ve ever found yourself in a relationship where you obviously feel more strongly about it than the other person, you need to read this book. And even if you haven’t had such a relationship, I’m sure this will be an enjoyable read!

WORTH CONSUMING!

I know some people are put off by “classics”, but don’t be put off by this one. It sucks you in right away. You’ll love it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

The movie adaptation of this book was good, but the book is wonderful. Even if you’ve already seen the movie, read the book. Irving’s characters are vivid as always, and there’s plenty of controversy to keep you thinking while you’re reading and even after you’re done.

A story about "The Robber Bride" — 5 years ago

A few years ago (before BookCrossing existed), I was on my way to a bar downtown and I walked through the nearby park to throw away some trash. On the park bench, I saw a tattered copy of “Robber Bride”. My first instinct was to grab it and after a few minutes of rationalizing that the person who left it there did it on purpose, I did take it. When I got home, I started reading it and devoured it in just a few days.

Even if you’re not looking for a “thinking” book, this is a good novel to just breeze through. The characters are vivid and you’ll probably see a little of yourself in every one of them. One of the characters is rather loathsome, so maybe you won’t see even a little of yourself in her. Or will you?

A story about "The Scarlet Letter" — 5 years ago

This is one of the best books I “had” to read in high school. I think it had something to do with teaching me how wrong it is to judge others.
