My all consuming summary of July, 2006 — 3 years ago

Well… at least I finished 4 books this month, which is better than the 1 I read last month. But really, reading only 5 books all summer, I feel like something is missing. I remember when I was a kid, I used to read upwards of 50 books every summer.

Foundation's Edge — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I can hardly believe Asimov wrote this book 32 years after he wrote The Foundation Trilogy. This fourth book in the series follows Golan Trevize, a young councilman from Terminus, on a journey to find Earth, which, he hopes, will lead him to the Second Foundation. Instead, he finds Gaia, Asimov’s fascinating and thought-provoking concept of a self-contained world with a super-consciousness. This book is brilliant, as Asmiov is wont to be, and captivating, and makes me want to do nothing but read Asimov books for as long as there are Asimov books unread.

A story about "Animaniacs, Vol. 1" — 3 years ago

I’m so glad Warner Brothers finally released these. They are as fabulous as I remember.

Triplanetary is Old Sci-Fi At It's Best — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This, the first book in E.E. Doc Smith’s Lensman series, is a wonderful, fast-paced space opera, full of aliens, high-tech space ships, space battles, and more. It was a fun and compelling read, and like most of the sci-fi of it’s time, an incredibly imaginative look at what the future might be like.

Why I recommend "Pillow Talk" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

They just don’t make movies like this anymore. Captivating, witty, and charming. I’ve never seen a contemporary movie pull off romantic comedy half so well as this… and I am now completely in love with Rock Hudson, albeit 50 years too late.

WORTH CONSUMING!

My friend Liz highly recommended this book. It will be my first erotica ever. How exciting!

Why I want to consume "The Savage Number: How Much Money Do You Need to Retire?" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

My aunt and uncle handed me this earlier today, and although it seems to be mostly addressing baby-boomers headed for retirement in the next 10-15 years, I hope there is something of relevance in there for me, as a young person just embarking on a freelance career and trying to figure out how to manage my money so that I actually have some. I love working in theatre, but I refuse to be a starving artist, and I refuse to live on cat food when I’m in my 70’s.

A Scandalous Breath of Fresh Air — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book, Les Liaisons Dangereuse, is full of gossip and scandal, which makes a lovely variation from other books of the period. The 4 stars are for the ending, which I found disappointing. Overall, though, I found the characters in this book enthralling, and I would highly recommend it, especially to anyone with a penchant for gossip.

A story about "The Subtle Knife (His Dark Materials, Book 2)" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Wow, this is not just a YA fantasy series… I loved the first book, but this one was more intriguing in terms of making me want to know where Pullman is going with this. Guess I’ll have to read the last one and see…
