I caught up on some of the manga that I’d abandoned a while ago. And now I’m in love with Beauty Pop and Ouran. They are both hilarious and the female leads aren’t all annoying like most shoujo heroines (which is why I like them so much I guess. Plus the whole parody factor and also the fact that under all that silliness there’s actually a pretty good story. Oh and they’re both pretty hilarious.) Also became a huge Mick Takeuchi fan. Her Majesty’s Dog and Bound Beauty are too awesome. I bought all the available volumes of HMD and can’t wait for the English release of Bound Beauty/Shibariya Komachi. Othello and The Devil Does Exist were okay. The Devil Does Exist used pretty much every cliche found in shoujo manga but it was definitely better than some shoujo. And Hikaru no Go is awesome. Must catch up on that soon.
Aside from all the manga, I watched the most awesome Canadian documentary ever. Yes, I am talking about Let’s All Hate Toronto. So very funny and awesome. Also watched Il Mare which is now one of my most favouritist gooey/warm/fuzzy feelings movie ever. So good. My Sassy Girl was pretty funny too. And Pocky is great. ALso finally watched Penelope which was really sweet.
Also read the total awesomeness that is Megan Whalen Turner’s Thief.

It took me a while to get into but after the first twenty pages or so I was hooked. I devoured it in one sitting. I am now a total “MJ-Convert”.

I picked this up because of all the rave reviews I heard and the plot seemed interesting. I tried to like it. I really did but her desperation just pissed me off! I mean who’d get all made up and stand in some sleazy crowded place in hopes of getting hit on by sleazy guys?! Ugh, I found her to be really annoying. This heroine and the one from Tail of the Moon (would calling her a complete and utter moron be considered cruel?) are on top of my hated character list (btw, Takumi holds the crown right now followed by Mayu Shinjo’s characters).

Actually this month should be called Manga Galore. This is the month that I read the the most fabulous, awesome, bestest manga EVER known as Nana. (For some reason it doesn’t show on this page…) It is so gooood that words alone can’t do it justice. This was the month that I completely fell in love with Yazawa Ai who is clearly a genius. I read anything else of hers that I could get my hands on. And that brings us to Tenshi Nanka Ja Nai! or Tennai which is also aaaawesome. Tennai needs to get licensed and published in English stat. I also read ParaKiss and Gokinjo. They were pretty awesome too.
The second series I totally love is Skip Beat! I’m not a huge fan of the art but it grows on you eventually. What I like about this one is that the girl can hold a grudge and she’s out for blood. Plus it’s really funny. But I think it’s running a little long though.
Anyways, I read some other stuff like MeruPuri which was really cute but the ending seemed a bit rushed. Also reread my all-time favourite, Marmalade Boy and still found it as awesome. All in all a good month.

I didn’t have very high expectations. I heard of the incident at Cannes and then I saw the cast… who in their right mind would cast the Rock, Bai “Nip-Slip Queen” Ling, Justin Timberlake and Stifler in the same movie?! Especially one that the writer/director himself describes as a “strange hybrid of the sensibilities of Andy Warhol and Philip K. Dick”. Um, yeah he wishes. I made it about 30 minutes and then I couldn’t take it anymore. It was just a pretentious muddled piece of crap. I can’t believe that the guy who created Donnie Darko made this disaster. Even though I didn’t expect much, it still managed to gravely disappoint. The movie was just trying to be something it wasn’t which was really annoying. Ugh and the dialog… just saying that it was bad wouldn’t really do it justice. Maybe it’s the best movie ever after the first 30 minutes but I don’t plan on trying to find out.

This month can only be described as Manga Galore! I am seriously addicted to manga. I initially started reading manga cos I read a post on someone’s livejournal sort of making fun of shoujo manga. And instead of the list making me recoil in fear and disgust, actually made me want to read shoujo manga. And now I am totally addicted! They are just super fun to read! This month my favourite is definitely Angel Sanctuary. It was just super awesome and a lot of fun. I liked how Setsuna could get really annoying (that sort of made him more human or something, imo). My favourite character was probably Kira though. Fushigi Yuugi was okay but dragged on and there were too many annoying characters. I think Vampire Knight is a bit overrated. I mean, it’s pretty average, typical stuff imo but everyone’s going totally apeshit over it. But it’s not bad or anything. I enjoyed it (especially Zero and his angsty-ness)! But I just don’t get why everyone loves it so much. Absolute Boyfriend was really okay except for the annoying characters. Sigh, Yuu Watase… And Red River was okay as well. I really like that Yuri’s a total fighter. I am liking Basara as well though I think it’s a bit too slow. And I’ve totally given up on Tail of the Moon because I hate the moronic female lead too much. Also all the other characters suck too and so does the art. Ugh I just hate that manga!

This OVA was created as a way to promote the manga (or something). Well, if I’d watched this before reading the manga, there is no way I would read the manga. Yes, it is reeeeally bad.

Wow, what a big waste of time. I didn’t even have any expectations at all after Reloaded but even then it did not fail to disappoint. And on top of that, the two sequels have totally made me lactose intolerant.

This one is SO much better than the first issue. Nina made an appearance (still don’t like her; never did). I really like that Gwen and Connor are back. Yes, I do like Connor. I especially liked him when he was evil. And why is Wesley still around?! I am really excited about the third issue!
