NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Wow, possibly the crappiest movie I’ve seen in a while. And I went in with very low expectations.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It is the most beautiful and heartbreaking book I’ve ever read.

WORTH CONSUMING!

THE EPICNESS! WOW!

Okay, this is such a must watch for anyone, really. God, it is so beautifully done. The story is about a king sent by the heavens to reunite the scattered lands of Joo Shin and the heavens have sent down four gaurdians (Blue Dragon, Turtle Snake, Phoenix and White Tiger) to help him. The story is kind of an Asian Arthurian Legend and LOTR rolled into one.

What I loved about this show were the characters. Not one damsel in distress anywhere. Every single female character was so strong and amazing (take, for example Sae-Oh who the god falls in love with. She gives birth to his child in the middle of a battle in a cave; then hands the baby off to be hidden and protected; fights in the battle and kicks some major ass; then finds out the enemy, Kajin has taken the baby; goes to find the baby and climbs a couple mountains; and then fights some more to save the baby. All this RIGHT AFTER GIVING BIRTH)! Sujini has to be one of the best female characters ever. She is not only and ace fighter and archer but also really cute and fun and smart. Kiha, on the other hand is pretty much the opposite (personality wise). Her life is just full of sadness and bitterness. At a very young age, she saw her parents die in front of her eyes and then got separated from her little sister by the people who killed her parents. Then they turned her into an assassin and sent her to the castle at the age of 10 to be a spy. She was falsely accused of many things and lost the one guy she loved more than anything. She also happens to be one of the guardians (the Phoenix). Even the minor female characters are so strong and important. The best blacksmith is a woman. The army manager is a woman. The female characters are so fantastic on this show.

The male characters are pretty great too. Ho Gae is probably one of the most heartbreaking and pitiful characters ever. He’s just one of those characters that you love and hate at the same time… Then there’s Dam Deok who has to pretend to be weak and dumb because he’s the real Joo Shin king. He doesn’t want to be king and sneaks out of the castle all the time and pretends to be a commoner. Then his father’s killed and he is betrayed by the one person who he trusted the most. All so the whole country hates him and the cabinet is always trying to kill him or defame him. He’s really smart and sweet and awesome at the gravity-defying fisticuffs. And he can wield a sword like nobody’s business. The dead father and being betrayed by his most trusted and best friend does mess him up to the point where he’s pretty much suicidal but he still works hard to become a damn good king.

This show is really amazing. It has a super awesome story, magic, amazing fight/battle scenes, complex and strong characters, prophecies, polo games (my favourite scenes), royalty, politics, great scenery, very very VERY cool special affects and mythology. It was just really tight all around (even though I didn’t care too much for the ending). It is a lot of fun to watch and I highly recommend it.

WORTH CONSUMING!

OMFG this series was so good! Honestly, it blows all the other kdramas out of the water (well, except for Coffee Prince. They’re pretty much equal in their awesomeness.)

This is story about revenge and it’s a tragedy and a bit of a mystery. It is really sad in the “pulverize the heart, set it on fire and then spit on it” kind of way but it really couldn’t go any other way. It is shot really beautifully and the direction and the music are amazing. But the best part has to be the acting. Seriously, I’ve pretty much mocked the acting on all the kdramas I’ve watched (except for Coffee Prince, of course) but in this the acting is just so fabulous!

This series didn’t have the cheesy dialogues or the glamourized bitch-whore ex-girlfriend/third wheel or the unnecessary angst and tears. (I mean, there was a whole lot of angst and tears but they were there for some very good reasons.) The romance wasn’t dominating or annoying and the love triangle (it’s a kdrama staple) was pretty subtle.

This is so so worth watching even for people who don’t like or have never seen a kdrama or any Asian shows. But it’s really tragic. Also, it’s got a hot angsty lawyer, a really sweet psychic girl and an angsty detective with daddy issues plus awesome acting, writing, direction and camera work. This is honestly one of the best things I’ve ever seen.

WORTH CONSUMING!

My Girl is a whole lot like Goong except the characters are in their 20’s.
I really don’t know what these Korean actors do to piss off the wardrobe people so badly. Seriously, this series featured the ugliest scarves, gayest coats/jackets and hideous turtlenecks. I know that Neil Schweiber says that turtlenecks make you look cool but they didn’t have to take his words so seriously. The girl’s wardrobe wasn’t as bad though they dressed her in too many outfits that featured the horrendous formal shorts. Again the guys had more make-up on than the entire female cast.

This one was funnier than Goong, I suppose. I really liked the exaggerated daydreams/fantasies/drunkenness. All the angsting and crying from Femmeboy was really funny as well (yes, yes, I have no heart. What else is new?) Oh and the flashbacks were great cos it looked like Scarfboy had gotten his haircut from a blind, angry alley cat.

Like Goong, it dragged on for a little too long and by the end there was just unnecessary angst overload. But nonetheless, it was definitely worth watching cos of the badness, the horrid wardrobe, the worst make-out scenes ever and Femmeboy (oh, Femmeboy~)! It is very entertaining and I totally recommend it (especially if you have an affinity to badness like I do).

Why I recommend "The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This kdrama was actually really good. The story and the characters were pretty well-written. And it was totally hilarious. I loved Goong for its awesome badness and I love Coffee Prince for its awesomeness. It’s so quirky and sweet (sometimes to the point of a severe toothache) and there’s also some angst. (Kdramas are just great for angst, aren’t they?) It was seriously good and definitely worth watching.

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is so bad it’s gone past good and back to bad again!

I really feel bad for the two royal guys in the show cos of the stuff they were made to wear. One of the guys wore more lip gloss than all the women on the show. The super pink lip gloss also clashed brilliantly with his orangish hair. And the Crown Prince always had some weird ugly jewelery on. He wore a lot of pink as well and I’m pretty sure they made him wear women’s fancy shirts as well.

This drama’s got everything from the cheesy and hilarious dialogue, bad acting (watch out for the “menacing eyes” bit and the awkward stiff hugs and kisses), angst, some awesome clothes and shoes (on the Crown Princess) and the awesomely bad clothes on the two princes. It’s highly entertaining. The sheer badness of it makes it so much fun to watch!

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "Tantalize" — 1 year ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

So far it’s been really boring and disappointing. I am not liking any of the characters especially the protagonist, Quincie. But since I paid $19 for it I’m gonna have to finish it. Ugh, to think I could’ve bought Magic or Madness or the new Sarah Dessen book instead of this crap…

I cannot believe that I have to wait until March 2009 to read City of Glass. That’s too damn long!
