Why I recommend "Relax with the Classics Collection 1, Special Edition"

Relax with the Classics Collection 1, Special Edition

by LIND Instititue

I was introduced to Baroque music by a speed reading instructor. Music has a big influence on the brain, baroque music is in the 1600-1750 amplitude range which is ideal for studying and relaxing at the Alpha frequency.

Ending needed more

I won’t give it away but something wasn’t revealed that required some explanation. Maybe they’ll have a sequel and fix that. shrug

Hardboiled, Hard Luck and god aweful Hard to finish! (rated 2 stars)

Hardboiled and Hard Luck

by Banana Yoshimoto

Hardboiled & Hard Luck is actually two short stories plopped together into one book. I am torn between giving this book a good review or an aweful one. I loved Hardboiled, it was a great story and well worth reading. Hard Luck on the other hand was a really long drawn out bore. It gives you the same feeling as if you were watching a scene that took an hour instead of 5mins.

The begining of the book (Hardboiled) has an eerie supernatural feel to it. The main character is hiking through the mountains when she realizes its the anniversary of her ex-lovers death. Various incidents haunt her through out the day including dreams of her ex-lover, a visit from the local ghost and mysterious black rocks that follow her where ever she goes.

The second story (Hard Luck) is with the same main character and a long drawn out death of her sister, Kuni who lies in a coma, brain dead. The real plot is in the relationship of Kuni’s finance’s brother who visits Kuni in the hospital, to get to the main character. Problem is, I don’t really understand if theres a relationship at all here since their common interest is in the lifeless Kuni. Believe me it was unnessarry addition to the book.

If you’re going to read Hardboiled & Hard Luck go ahead and read the first section of it but don’t read the second part with much aticpation. You may think you’ll find answer in Hard Luck but remember Hardboiled ends on page 89.

A review of "Snakes and Earrings"

Snakes and Earrings

by Hitomi Kanehara

I found Snakes and Earrings by accident. I was in Chapters and it just happened to be misplaced in the middle of no where, so I took it as a sign that maybe I should be reading it.

The story is about a young girl named Lui who meets a snaked tongued boy named Ama. She’s intriguid by his mutalations and sets about getting a forked tongue herself. To do this she first needs a stud in her tongue. Shiba-san performs the piercing and continues to meet up with Lui to tatoo a large Kirin and Dragon on her back. In exchange for his services they have sex, many times. The story has a couple twists and turns that returns to haunt the characters.

I enjoyed the book up until the end and then it lost me completely! I would recommend this book to anyone just so they can explain the ending to me!!

I knew this would be a good one but gosh it gave me an unexpected workout! I’m a ‘ponderer’ by nature, I like to think about things before I make a judgement, so when I watched this movie my mind kept wandering in and out connecting what was being said to my own life.

I watched it once but I gotta see it again to relive the zoned out parts!

That year being in a new country and experiencing fascinated and wonderful things everyday, I had made a decision to stop reading self help and just live to the fullest extent. I had one more week in Taipei before I was to move back home to Canada when I came across this wonderful gem of a book. With what little money I had in my pocket .. I just had to get it! The title encapsulated my personal motto at that precise moment of my life. It was perfect!

This by the way is a Marketing book but the advice apply to the everyday so don’t be afraid to read it on a rainy day.
