Many books these days have become as formulaic as Hollywood movies, so it’s refreshing to read one that not only has a good plot, but is written captivatingly. The Time Traveler’s Wife is one such book. I can barely put it down, and I recommend it to anyone who’s looking for originality in contemporary fiction.

David Baldacci is my Grisham. I love all his books, and his latest novel does not disappoint.

The book is a history lesson. It meanders its way through major events in church history before finally getting to the crux of the matter – the Jesus-Magdalene conspiracy. If you have no patience, don’t read it.

This book is about a little community practising and extremist form of Christianity. It’s not just about religion, but also about people struggling to maintain old belief systems and a sense of order and harmony in a modern, chaotic world. Tedious in some parts, but otherwise okay.

I’ve seen bits of the movie and know a little about the series, but this is the first time I am actually reading any of the books. The writing isn’t fantastic, but the premise is interesting.

McNaught is one of the better trashy-novel writers out there. This is good, light stuff.

Boring.

I was a little unprepared for the style and tone of this book. It reminded me a little of Jane Eyre, even though Bronte isn’t quite as witty as Faber is. think it’s a pretty good read.

I didn’t see the movie, but by most accounts the book is very good. Hopefully it lives up to its reputation.
