Finally Eco is back on form after his mind-bogglingly boring Foucault’s Pendulum. Here is the Eco of The Name of the Rose. Comedy, tragedy and whimsy are all rolled into one in this book. Read it.
I thought this would be a Nanny Diaries rip-off but it’s actually turning out to be better!
I can’t put this down. It’s seriously good. Plus, there was that part about the protagonist fucking a sheep….
Although I’m a fan of Carey’s, I think this one’s a disappointment. There does seem to be a plot, but it seems to be meandering down its own path with no clear direction. Definitely not his best work. I give up!
The tale of how a widow and her taciturn stepdaughter overcome their grief at the loss of their husband/father and find a sense of family again in each other.
‘Nother take on the Salem witch trials of 1691. So far, so good.
Two guys and a girl meet for a midnight romp in a barn. Girl’s boyfriend shows up, beats up on her and kills her by accident. Boyfriend then blackmails two guys into silence. How will it end?
I’ve always said I don’t ever want to live in America, and this book is further strengthening that resolve.
I didn’t really get a feel for the characters until about a third of the way into the book and at times, the plot seemed to lose its way a little.
