A story about "Batter Off Dead" — 17 weeks ago

This book was so awful I couldn’t get past the second chapter! Life is too short to read bad books.

Why I recommend "The Thing About Life Is That One Day You'll Be Dead" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The title tells you this is no ordinary book. Part philosophy, part science, part memoir, it is a fascinating look at how we feel about life and death. Having so recently gone through the end of my mother’s life, I found this deep, funny, thoughtful and relevant. I recommend it highly.

A story about "Revealing Glazes. Using the Grid Method." — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I attended a workshop by the author and this method is so clear, so easy, so visual, that every potter should have this book!

A story about "Two Buck Chuck" — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is also known as Charles Shaw Wine. $2.49 a bottle in Atlanta. I like the Merlot. It’s as good or better than any $8 wine I find around here. My SO just gave me a case of it for my birthday.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Take a cup of cooked (or canned) corn niblets, a cup of canned black beans, drained, half a chopped onion, half a chopped red and/or green popper, a pinch of salt and mix. Drizzle over this a quarter cup of olive oil and two tablespoons of lime juice. You can mix in whatever spices you like, such as chili powder, hot pepper, etc. Serve over spinach or lettuce. Serve with crackers or corn chips.

Why it's taking me forever to finish consuming "The Year of Magical Thinking" — 1 year ago

I began this book months ago while taking care of my elderly mother. Just as I started the book Mom fell. I’m sure she suffered a stroke. It was just six weeks until her death. During this time I found it impossible to read this book. And right after, when my own grief was so fresh and raw the book just reminded me of my own pain. I’m picking it up now and will try to finish. I found myself thinking about it while I dealt with my grief. For instance, I can’t seem to throw away Mom’s dentures. They were just so important. I know she will never need them again and that they are useless to anyone else. Still, I can’t toss ‘em.

A story about "Tea" — 1 year ago

This is my staple tea. I drink it every morning. During the rest of the day I try to stick to decaf, as I’ve grown fond of sleeping.

Great stuff — 1 year ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is delicious, low fat, and cheap! It’s good on yogurt or by itself. I used to get something like it for about $4 a pound, then I found Trader Joes and now pay $2.49 a pound. Trader Joes isn’t close to me but I get a bunch anytime I go to Atlanta.

A review of "The Ladies in Lavendar" — 1 year ago

This is one S-L-O-W movie. There’s no action, just characters, including two old ladies and a young, talented violinist they take in after he is shipwrecked trying to get to America. Set during WWII the movie is slightly annoying. I kept watching thinking something had to happen, but nope!
