A story about "Esquire Presents: What It Feels Like: *To Walk on the Moon*To Be Gored by a Bull*To Survive an Avalanche *To Swallow Swords*To Go Over Niagara Falls in a Barrel*To Be Shot in the Head*To Win the L" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is a conglomeration of the most absurd, exciting, terrifying, and interesting things that could happen to a person and their account or how it felt.

I love the concept of this… a man tells you what it feels like to win the lottery, someone else will tell you what it feels like to be shot. There are many short stories documenting people’s experiences.

I found it fascinating and a great book to bring along on the subway when you don’t have tons of time to invest, yet want something to do.

A story about "An Innocent, a Broad" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Written by comedian Denis Leary’s wife, Ann, this is a coming to motherhood type of book… only multiplied with the frustrations and anxieties of doing so prematurely and in a foreign country.

The emotion that a young mother faces, while her husband is becoming famous, and she is stuck in a foreign hospital is quite fascinating. She maintains a sense of humor about her situation and predicament.

A good read for anyone looking for something different than your typical travel book, with some spunk, or a new mother.

A story about "I Thought My Father Was God: And Other True Tales from NPR's National Story Project" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Parts of this book had me doubled over in laughter. This is a book that makes you feel nearly every emotion possible. I love the concept and the simplicity of it.

These are ‘true stories’ from every day people. Some are more memorable than others, yet the entire book is enjoyable. I also love how you can pick it up and put it down randomly for a quick read on the subway or elsewhere.

This is one of my favorite books.

A story about "Almost French: Love and a New Life in Paris" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The author convincingly interprets her life in a foreign country so that it is not too dry and boring. Her whirlwind romance is somewhat a surprise, however she and her husband have found a way to make their international relationship work.

I appreciated how she was able to not only talk about living in Paris, but also the more mundane things that couples face that is sometimes amplified when dealing with someone from another culture.

Blowing My Cover... — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This book is a quick read. It contains information of one woman’s journey with the CIA and eventually out of it. While parts of the book are more female oriented (such as the authors continuing desire to have a boyfriend), it is lighthearted and enjoyable. The isolation required for being in the CIA is something you definitely take with you after reading this book.

I was fascinated by an insiders look into the unclassified version of the CIA. While being an agent is not as glamorous as it is typically portrayed, the author enabled the reader to visualize this experience.

I suggest reading it and found it simple, yet highly enjoyable.

A story about "Man's Search for Meaning" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This was a required reading book for my college philosophy course. I could not put it down and really felt more enlightened and connected to the human spirit. You will be surprised at your own emotions as you read this book.

Body Farm — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is a fascinating book if you are into forensics. I appreciate the author’s jovial sense of humor and sharing his knowledge. It is a bit more of a retrospective of his life as opposed to all about the Body Farm, however you understand more clearly how he came to find something so gruesome and educational.

It is a quick read… I suggest it if you are remotely interested in science or decomposition to check this book out!

A story about "True Story: Murder, Memoir, Mea Culpa" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I heard about this on one of those news magazine shows – 48 hours or Dateline. It is a fascinating story of a disgraced New York Times writer and a man who was accused of killing his family, named Christian Longo.

The stories intertwine ironically after the author is fired from NYTimes and learns that a man has been found in Mexico claiming to be him…

The twists and turns of finding out more regarding the murders is intriguing and complex.

Michael Finkel, the writer of this book, follows both his and Christian Longo’s life stories and how they weave together.

Interesting read for anyone with an interest in true crime, writing, and the justice system.

I enjoy it... — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

there were many parts of this book that I found fascinating. This is a must read for anyone that is in social work or something similar.

I appreciated how triumpant the author was after seeming to hit dead end after dead end thanks to her lack luster parents. They did what they could and were fascinating people, however you will quickly learn they are bound to disappoint.

Be ready for some surprises near the end.

A story about "Why Americans Zig Zag When They Eat" — 2 years ago

This book is a very random account of various world things you probably never thought about…
Where does Chess come from?
Why do Americans switch hands while cutting food and eating? What do those Italian pasta names really mean?

There are some highly fascinating things in this book, however it is quite random and unpredictable.
