A story about "Singular Intimacies: Becoming a Doctor at Bellevue" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

This is an interesting account of a doctors progress through medical school, being an intern, and residency. I would recommend this book for anyone with interests in the inner workings of becoming a doctor and also understanding what doctors go through.

I was especially touched by her poignant descriptions and heart felt stories. I cannot fathom telling people they have AIDS, as she did and doctors do daily. This is an inner glimpse into it all.

A story about "Vintage Sacks" — 2 years ago

Some of the stories are fascinating, others are interesting but a bit more science.

I would suggest reading this book if you are intrigued by color blindness, Tourette’s Syndrom, the deaf world, or catatonic people.

A story about "My Life Among the Serial Killers" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The author, Dr. Helen Morrison, attempts to explain why serial killers are how they are and what makes them that way (her end conclusion is genetics).

The stories of the serial killers that she has spoken with are chilling and fascinating in a sick way.

This book is not for the faint of heart and has some morbid and descriptive tales of people who are unattached and live to kill.

I found the book informative, well written, and composed with knowledge and experience of Dr. Morrison’s career.

what would I expect? — 2 years ago

This book is really not that great… I don’t get into old time hollywood history or being famous for the sake of being famous. If you are into that kind of thing then this book would make you happy.

It does ‘heir’ dirty laundry on the Hilton family, but let’s be serious who has a family that does not have things they would rather ignore?

To sum it up the family is not ashamed in the least by notorious Paris Hilton’s antics / ‘video’, her maternal grandmother did all she could so her daughters would marry wealthy or be famous.

Save your time!

A story about "Yeah, I Said It" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Wanda is the same in the book as on her comedy central TV apperances. She is a funny, honest, some times crude woman that will make you laugh.

I tried to read the book out loud to my husband on a long drive and we both were in tears as I tried to mimic her voice.

This book has a liberal bias, however the things that she brings up are quite thought provoking. It is a quick read and broken up into tiny chapters making it easy to pick up and put down without feeling as though you neglect it.

A story about "The Nanny Diaries" — 2 years ago

While this is ‘fiction’, the sad reality is that this is the life of many seemingly well to do children. I worked first hand with children like these and it is seriously depressing.

There is a reason that their parents (ok, usually just the Dad) works like a dog… so the can pay for therapy later. If you are interested in the socialite scene then this is a book for you.

The mother of this child wants nothing more than to appear to be a good wife, mother, socialite, woman about town. Unfortunately this hollow exisitance is serious.

How "East of Eden" changed my life — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

First let me say that I am not a fiction reader, I truly would rather spend my time reading something that is ‘real’ or based on actual events.

This is a monster of a book, yet as soon as it is over you will want to read it or contemplate it for quite some time. I loved it and it has burned into my mind as one of the most memorable books I have read.

I was excited to visit the Big Sur and Monterey area of California where Steinbeck lived. He has broadened my horizons slightly and I will now sit down with one of his books and not feel like I am wasting my time.

A story about "Holidays on Ice: Stories" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It is pure Sedaris, straight from the NPR days. I do agree with other reviewers that other books are more interesting and humorous.

For me this goes in the Christmas files along with Christmas music that only comes out during one month of the year.

A story about "Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Everyone wants to recount their adolesence with excitement as well as honest depictions of how things happened. I appreciate the Sedaris family’s take on life and their naive charm.

This is funny book that I would most definitely recommend.

Why I like people who have consumed "Me Talk Pretty One Day" — 2 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Sedaris is a cult comic genius. If you appreciate one of his books chances are good you will appreciate all of them and his wry, and witty, sense of humor.

Instantly if someone tells me they appreciate his work I know that they do not take life too seriously and are not very judgemental – which is good!

He does a wonderful job of making his stories ironic, yet interesting. I would suggest this to everyone reading this review!
