i got lost in this book. it was so straightforward, with so much attention to detail and with so many interviews with people that hadn’t been approached before that it was almost impossible to put down. it took me into his world. it made him a real person. and it gave some insight as to why he was the way that he was. fascinating stuff.

but that’s not the wonderful thing about it.

i really love visual art but there are some things that i just don’t understand—like the technique that’s involved in creating a brushstroke that’s uniquely yours. or the history of modern art that could create someone like rauschenberg, or why he’s important. this book explains these things so carefully that a non-artist like me can understand it.
