K. Rowling

What can I say? Wow. I totally immersed myself in this book. I laughed, I cried, I was furious, I was so very devastated at the end. I felt like I shouldn’t have even attempted the book until the 7th was out. The untied ends are going to drive me utterly insane.

I have read the first chapter and I must say the only thing it has failed to do is intrigue. There were some humorous points (which is why I was pulled to the book), but I guess I shall give it a chance anyway.

The Da Vinci Code made me question the already questionable (for me) topic of religion and brought good points to the table. I can’t say enough about this book, so I’ll conclude with, ‘Intriguing, a must-read!’

A story about "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West"

Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West

by Gregory Maguire

Wonderful. I don’t think I’ve read of a character whom I consider more like myself than Elphaba. Wildly agnostic, stubborn, with a tendency to speak what’s on her mind (no matter the cost), Maguire painted a character fighting against the odds in a frustrating world and keeps with L. Frank Baum’s theme of reflecting a modern world through certain not-so-apparent analogies as politics and religion. I hope the ending doesn’t escape the praise I have for this book thus far. (Finished: ok, so the ending may have been a bit anticlimactic, but what does one expect after a lifetime of knowing the eventual ending? The rest sufficed for me. Indubitably. Pondering adding as a Fave Book.)

Rowling

Sadly my least favorite of the Harry Potter series. A redundant, tedious, seemingly (at the time) rather irrelevant volume, but made wonderful movie material! (Or perhaps that was due to the talents of Alfonso Cuaron?)

Tolkien Boxed Set (The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings)

by J.R.R. Tolkien

Starting with The Hobbit, I read through the entire series and enjoyed the storytelling. They do, however, are tedious after a while until after reading through the songs which are SEEMINGLY irrelevant (unless you want to be COMPLETELY immersed in the world of Tolkien so deep you’ll never find your way back out). They are wonderful stories, though, and are recommended.
