Why I gave up consuming "JPod" — 2 years ago
This book actually caused me to break up with Douglas Coupland. Don’t bother reading it, it’s Microserfs only longer and without the charm.
I'm currently reading 8 books, listening to 0 albums, watching 4 movies, eating and drinking 0 food items, and consuming 0 other things.
This book actually caused me to break up with Douglas Coupland. Don’t bother reading it, it’s Microserfs only longer and without the charm.
Shhh! It could be full of chocolate, OK?
Whoa…. I totally hated this movie, walked out of the theatre in fact, but everyone else on all consuming who has seen it before me liked it. Could I be some kind of anomaly? Could I have misjudged this film? Enlighten me.
It’s fun, but it takes up SO. MUCH. TIME. And the depressing /played function actually allows you to quantify this waste. I’m taking a break for awhile because last night I kept having bad dreams about ogres.
Although I am enjoying the second season (i’ve seen the first 6 episodes or so), I find the pacing of season 2 bizarre. Things keep happening suddenly and seemingly randomly. Characters seem to appear and re-appear at the whimsy of the writers rather than according to any kind of logic. Characters argue and then the next time we see them in a scene together, they’re fine again. Rob Thomas, what are you doing to us?
This said, the dialogue is still snappy and fun. And did I detect a Big Lebowski shout-out? (“She’s my special lady friend!”) Plus, cameo by Joss Whedon. So of course I’ll keep watching.
Bill Bryson’s memoir about traveling in Britain started off so hilarious that I really thought I was in for a treat. My face was literally sore from laughing. But instead I ended up taking several weeks to read it because the last two-thirds really drags: “I went to a hotel. I walked around. I ate some food. I went to a hotel.” etc… It’s boring and very uneven.
This is not to say that it’s not worth reading, but if you’re like me and feel strongly obliged to finish a book once you start it, be cautious!
The Break-Up wasn’t as bad as I expected, actually. The conflict between the characters escalated ridiculously, in typical romantic-comedy style, but at least the reason it began seemed legitimate and realistic. And I liked the ending.
Other miscellaneous notes:
Jennifer Aniston is actually a pretty good actress. Witness The Good Girl and Friends with Money.
Vincent D’Onofrio is awesome and weird in this movie.
Personally, I think it’s kind of dumb that people have been complaining about the trailer misrepresenting the movie. Why does this surprise you? Doesn’t that pretty much always happen?
The theatre was also airconditioned, so I liked it.
No offense, Woody Allen, but this is one of the most boring movies I’ve seen in a long time. I didn’t even get to the end. It gave me tennis elbow, and a headache. Not even redeemed by the prettiness and blondness of Scarlett Johansson.
I was disappointed in the new X-Men movie. I liked the previous 2 quite a bit but this one seemed really formulaic and clicheed in comparison. It was a little too glib and predictable. The casting was good though—Kelsey Grammer was particularly great.
I went to see it in the theatre, and I kind of want to rent it when it comes out just so I can be unabashedly snarky.
Scott is my mutant boyfriend.
