A question I have about "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas: A Savage Journey to the Heart of the American Dream"

Thompson

Here is my question. Why have 146 people (not including me) consumed this, but no one has left a comment? Why is the most popular tag drugs? Has anyone actually read this?

A review of "Mirrormask"

Mirrormask

If you’re a rabid Neil Gaiman fan, you’ve probably already seen this, so it doesn’t matter. Don’t read it because it will just make you froth at the mouth and scream for my head on a stick. I have read most of what he’s written and I consume everything by Dave McKean that I can get my hands on. I don’t think they’re infallible, though.
That being said, I was let down by this. There’s a lot of stunning visuals, and for that alone, I would say that it’s worth seeing, but everything else, the plot, the acting, the dialogue, some of the sets and costumes, editing and pacing shows that this is a first time effort for many involved. Some of the circus troupe actors look and sound like they went to a local LARP meeting to recruit them. I was watching it late at night, but I fell asleep before the end, which is very rare for me.
I hate to be that guy, but I have to point out a few things that are common misconceptions. The last comment says that anyone with a Mac can make movies. Right… Anyone with a Mac, a ten million dollar budget, and the assistance of the Jim Henson’s Muppet Workshop can make MirrorMask. Also, I believe Frank Miller wrote “Sin City,” though maybe he was involved in some movie version of the video game SimCity, I could be mistaken. Also, MirrorMask has nothing to do with comic book movies. It wasn’t based on a comic, or on anythng.
Ultimately, I’m very glad for McKean that this did far better than anyone planned. It was originally planned as a direct to DVD release, and the fact that it made it into theaters at all is an accomplishment. But people talk as if it’s the Dark Crystal or Labyrinth of this generation, and I don’t think it lives up to either of those or other work of Gaiman and McKean’s.
I will say that it does make me extremely excited to see more movies of McKean’s in the future.

Wish I'd read it when I was younger

Flowers for Algernon

by Daniel Keyes

My friend found this cheap at a used bookstore and was inspired to re-read it. He convinced me to do so also, and I don’t regret it, though I think that I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I’d read it as a teenager. There’s a lot of ‘60s psychobabble that detracts from the basic ideas of the story, but there’s also a lot of real emotion to the story and the characters. I would definitely give it to a kid of the ages 11-16 or so.

I read this quickly and enjoyed parts of it, but overall, it was a bit too… ‘60s for me. The writing was good but I felt like it was trying a bit too hard to be outrageous. People have told me that The Sheltering Sky is amazing. I’m going to read that soon.

They’re ultra-catchy, twisted pop with everything turned up to 11. At first, you will think, “What the hell is this? What is he saying? Who are these maniacal retards?” Then you will start tapping your feet unconsciously. You’ll catch yourself humming Ramones songs on your way to work. Then you will realize the genius of The Ramones.
This is the first two (and best) Ramones albums (Ramones and Ramones Leave Home) on one disc, plus two live tracks. For $10 (? So cheap!), this is one of the best values for your dollar in music.
I usually see this listed as All the Stuff (And More) Vol. 1. The second volume is listed like that on All Consuming, but this one isn’t for some reason. Whatever it’s called, you need to own it. Of course, you also need to own the second volume, which is their second two albums, Rocket to Russia and Road to Ruin.

A review of "Burningn'n Tree"

I’d listened to a lot of IDM and some of Squarepusher’s stuff before, but I never got that into Squarepusher until I heard this album. Jazzy drums and upright bass gone beautifully haywire.
