A story about "elections" — 3 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i didn’t know where “voting” was, so i will just say that i have consumed the elections already.

this is my first time voting in a presidential election. i went downtown the first day early voting came around. i convinced my father (who has not voted in a while) to go. if he had an account here he too would say it was ‘worth consuming.’ i mean, it took less than twenty minutes. just twenty minutes out of your life to pick the person who is going to run this country for the next four years. that doesn’t seem too bad at all.

A review of "Bake Sale" — 21 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i started getting into the cool kids, mcs chuck inglish & mickey rocks, when the fool’s gold tour was coming around. i was more interested in seeing kid sis, kavinsky, chromeo, and a-track. well, i ended up liking the cool kids… a lot. their ep totally flossed out had songs that were too damn catchy:

88, black mags, pump up the volume, gold and a pager, i’m mikey, what it iz, one two, a little bit cooler

pretty much all those songs are on bake sale sans pump up the volume and “what it iz” gets changed to “what it is” as does “i’m mikey” > > > “mikey rocks”

what up man, bassment party, jingling are the additional songs added to their latest ep. oddly enough i don’t like those three tracks. i think i might i hate them. i’m not sure yet as i always tend to skip them while in rotation. ;/

aside from that i don’t really consider the bake sale to be an “album of the year” or even influential (riding bikes? hot sneaks? come on), but i do consider it to be a good party album. i’m just chillin’ like a villain never gets old (in “what it is” or any hip hop song for that matter) and that’s exactly what i do when the cool kids come on. well, that or i party… and party some more.

although the cool kids’ lyrics & personal style come off original i think that the hype surrounding them can be a bit annoying. i’m pretty sure they’re about to be considered overrated by myself soon unless they redeem themselves with their lp when fish ride bicycles this year.

A review of "By All Means Necessary" — 23 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

“hip hop is dead” i see / hear that a lot on forums or in the conversations i have with friends.

i like krs-one a lot. i never knew bdp existed until a friend suggested i listen to criminal minded. well, needless to say i downloaded the wrong album- by all means necessary. i instantly was drawn to “my philosphy”, as it is the first track, and put it on repeat every chance i got. one of my favorite lines is: how many MCs must get dissed before somebody says don’t fuck with kris? there is something raw and real about bdp that carries through the music. i find it hard to feel the same way about many hip hop / rap artists today. i’m not saying that everyone is horrible now because there are people i feel that create tracks that are a throwback to old school hip hop.

while i can’t relate to the music word for word i do get the “underlying” messages that krs-one delivers. oh, and about his delivery- amazing. i wish he still sounded like this! although, i can forgive him for “sound of da police” (ah, i hate that track!). spiritual minded? i can’t forgive him for that album.

anyways, i really enjoyed all of it from “stop the violence” “i’m still #1” and “illegal business”. this probably holds top spots in people’s “greatest hip hop albums” lists. after listening to the album i now realize why so many people say hip hop is dead. i have to laugh when i hear lil wayne say that he will never let hip hop die. all i have to say is that bdp reigns supreme. they were great for their time and are influential artists in the world of hip hop still.

spectacular ! — 38 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

i decided to end my long music piracy streak by going out and buying this album. hey, sometimes a cd just isn’t worth buying when only 2 tracks are amazing. :/

right after leaving the store i decided to rip off the plastic (while i was walking!), open my car door, and put it into my cd player. “time to pretend” is the first track on the album and is a good opener. i have to agree with the person below me if what they are saying is that mgmt songs on oracular spectacular are jumbled. surprisingly, in a weird way, they all seem to come together and form a decent album. now i know what all the hype was about from all those music blogs. okay, pitchfork (which trumps other sites- admit it!) rated it a 6.8 and although that might not seem great it’s good enough for me! because you know, i am one of those drones that cares about what they rate an album ;/

anyways, i love the following tracks:

weekend wars
electric feel (i would at least have to use the word ‘funk’ when describing this track. caught me off guard, but i enjoyed it)
kids (who can’t fall in love with this beat ?! + it’s overwhelmingly catchy)
4th dimensional transition
pieces of what
future reflections

tracks i like:

the youth
of moons, birds & monsters
the handshake

i don’t necessarily hate or dislike any of the tracks. i think that, even in their state of disorientation, they are all needed to make oracular spectacular… oracular spectacular. it definitely made me glad that the purchase was well worth it. if only other artists could make me feel the same.
