Peace out forever!!!!!

Kidding aside, this flick’s a renter or a download. Nix theatre, you might fall asleep during key scenes. Or find yourself bogged down by the haphazard sequencing. Whoever told me that this was a comedy better go into hiding.

A story about "Deadliest Warrior" — 36 weeks ago

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1281313/ is right. Despite all the technical hoo-hah the show has corny written all over it. Still, I’m looking forward to Viking vs Samurai.

A story about "The Unit Season 1" — 37 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

The Unit’s first season was exciting. Quite a bit of tac was being shown, and that’s what gave the show its value. For some reason that I can’t now recall I missed seasons 2 and 3. Catching season four’s first episode tonight was something of a disappointment. From being action-oriented and tightly edited, things have become weighed down with drama and tac situations bogged by predictability.

Quirky! Funny? Tolerable cutesy cop comedy. None of the characters are really that interesting. The series might pick up after 3 or 4 episodes, so we’ll stick to it – until Mad Men or Burn Notice or any other better show gets back on track.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Worst vampire movie ever?

Some clever bits. — 37 weeks ago

Not to be confused with the movie starring Jonny Lee Miller, this one was all right in the drama, slow in pace (deliberately?), had a few clever spots – but ultimately was predictable. Still, not bad for an afternoon’s lazy screening. Great, easily recognisable actors taking it easy and as a result the acting suffers from said lazine- er, easy like Sunday morning syndrome.

Wait for it. — 38 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

For a long time into The International the viewer might wonder why he opted for such a sterile, yawn-a-minute flick; but if he stays on the reward is excellent. Two words: Guggenheim shoot-out.

An excerpt from film.com interviewing Clive Owen: “I think the Guggenheim sequence is one of the most exquisitely executed sequences I’ve been involved in. Months before shooting, [director] Tom [Twyker] and I walked around. He had the whole think mapped out, and showed me how he was going to shoot it. I remember when we did the first rehearsal with the stuntmen, you could tell how great it was going to be. And Tom executed it brilliantly.”

And brilliantly is right. Go rent this one, save yourself a nap in the theatre.

A story about "Soju" — 38 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

I was introduced to soju by a Korean friend more than a decade ago, at a noisy 80s night at a Korean disco (no kidding!) at little Korea, K-town, here in Chicago. It might have been the combination of everyone smoking, the boatload of kimchi, bottle after bottle of beers punctuated by a shot of soju, and the too-loud 80s tunes… but waking up the next morning I though to myself, well that wasn’t too bad now was it!

Last week I was in the area where a large K-centric mart is located, Super H Mart (are you familiar with this store?) and bought a small bottle of some soju, the name which I can’t pronounce – and downed the thing in a few gulps. It’s quite good, but I seem to remember that the soju I had in the K-disco tasted of (fruit? raisins?) distinctly. This soju I drank was “clean” and went down like smooth vodka. The smoother, better vodkas at any rate.

A few days ago I was at Super H Mart again and I bought another, different bottle of some other soju. I’m comparing the brands you might say – trying to find a favorite. Good thing you can buy them in small, pocket-sized bottles, best for experimentation. Until you find one that suits you… and then, well, time to put on some loud 80s music. :)

Yawntastic... — 38 weeks ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

A lazy afternoon deserves a light-hearted comic adventure, something your nieces and nephews can watch with you. This flick was disappointing. I stayed as long as I could, but waiting for it to pick up and become exciting like say, Ratatouille or similar work – brought on a slew of boos and yawns.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Have seen this many times, but last night on a rare occasion I found myself browsing the previewed DVDs in a major chain – bought the disc, along with Children of Men. With a recently acquired copy of The International it’s looking like a Clive Owen marathon of sorts!
