Reboot fun! ...& a few observations. — 32 weeks ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

● [House alert!] Dr Chase is giving birth. Give this one to six degrees fans, see how quickly they trace it back to KB.
● Karl Urban has can American accent? You had me at “Bones”, and I’m not even a Shatner-Nimoy era Trek fan.
● Romulans look all punk with face tats, but… tabi?
● Speaking of, Leonard Nimoy plays Leonard Nimoy ok.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Kept me up, this movie did. Any student of history already knows the outcome of things, but why stay for the ending? Several reasons why: A powerhouse cast, mostly well-played parts, a compelling storyline (not that Hollywood couldn’t change it if they wanted to); and might I say, able directing. Tom Cruise is almost always surefire snooze as far as I’m concerned, but with a supporting cast of instantly recognisables (Eddie Izzard pulling off a serious role!?) in Valkyrie I’m riveted to the screen, arms grasping the edge of my seat, bated breath and all that. Truth be told I’ve yet to finish the flick, I almost don’t want to. Valkyrie makes you want to revise history. You want the good guys to win. They, well. Go back to your history books.

A story about "waiting rooms" — 32 weeks ago

Waiting rooms make me more nervous.

Cold Warriors — 32 weeks ago

Green Beret vs Spetsnaz face-off, in TDW’s most recent episode – was pretty entertaining. The Spets guys were tough, quiet, dry-humored and standoffish but performed 100%. The Green Berets were just so-so.

RDJ in a spot-on performance as Charlie Chaplin. A touching, memorable biopic that comes highly recommended.

2.5 stars in yer eyes — 33 weeks ago

Ok bit of action-romance (yep, you read that right) for the comic book/Hugh Jackman makes me swoon set. While we’ve all been dreading how badly they’d make a movie of Origins – when has a movie adaptation been better than the book? – this flick’s all yawns up until the Wolverine phase. And then it’s only slightly boring.

It’s been years since I’ve read up on my X-Men lore, but was Gambit really that much involved or is that backstory fabrication? The love angle dulled things for me a little, sure, we know about Logan’s lost loves – but direction could’ve handled it smoother. Or maybe they’ll fix that in Origins part 2? Let’s fast forward to many years from now when they reboot this franchise and put out decent product. Next!

Emily Blunt continues to be the cynical, (cute?), kind of crazy/funny brunette. John Malk keeps taking on roles that reflect old age and/or idiosyncrasies. Usually an unflattering combination of both. Tom Hanks’s kid needs to sharpen his acting skills on a few more made for tv drama comedies before going on the big screen.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Lost earlier copies in several moves, then saw a used cd online. My little sib got it for me, and today it’s in the post – a quick rip and I’ll be rockin out to TBP’s catchy indie alt-y tunes once more.

A story about "The Reader" — 36 weeks ago

The amazing thing is, I’ve owned the book for lots of years – but never read it. I wasn’t even sure that my shelves held a copy until tonight. After seeing the adaptation I knew, rather, I felt that I should search for it. And there it was: On the first try, on the first shelf that I looked into. Waiting to be opened, waiting to be read.

Excellent fit. Does not cramp in the crotch like some slim fit jeans do. Mine’s a textured light gray wash with lighter gray contrast stitching. Everything about the Bleecker rocks – the next thing is to find a darker wash, possibly black or raw indigo.
