WORTH CONSUMING!

A Terrorist’s Tale:
A journalistic drama about the Baader-Meinhof gang reveals a journalist who went over the edge.

J.R. Jones’s article in the Reader made me find this and find it I did – Der Baader Meinhof Komplex is one of the strongest movies in quite a long time. Also a delight, to see Ganz and Heino Ferch (Der Untergang alumni) still doing very well, and of course Martina Gedeck from Das Leben der Anderen

Very heady stuff. If you’re wondering about any of these movies, don’t. Go dive right into the new wave of German cinema. Schnell!

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Xavier Gens’s take on chainsaw massacrin’ Texans (crossbred with some Hostel) only in this version they’re French …Nazi? Oxymoron alert! Clumsy, ineffective splatter flick and I fell asleep twice. Rewind, play, snooze redux. For once the Americans have something that New French Extremity – the vaunted Nouvelle extrémité française, did miss.

A story about "Martyrs" — 14 weeks ago

Very disturbing torture porn. Brings sadism to a hellish, new low. The previous poster’s analysis is spot on, to which I add that you proceed at your own risk.

Having screened both the original Norse and this English dub, have to say that this flick’s way better in the former. Going through it in dumbed-down mode is no fun for anyone.

...and I’m pretty sure they’ll laugh me out of the country if I tell them about this movie.

Beautiful, captivating scenery and very heavy atmosphere matched by a deliberately slow pace. Might send most to sleep, I certainly can’t imagine that this will draw the crowds in American multiplexes. Sauna can be taken either literally – the sins of war come back to haunt the living, or metaphorically, in which case this flick gets 5/10.

Why I want to consume "Black Adder III" — 15 weeks ago

Laurie’s Prince George as “dim-witted upper class twit”. Hah.

A story about "30 Rock - Season Three" — 15 weeks ago

Did snag just the episodes with Jon Hamm (before S3 of Mad Men came on) in them. My littlest sib went on about how this show was so funny! and I can see that, maybe, if I caught it on the right night, head fulla wine &c.

Why I want to consume "Girl From Rio" — 15 weeks ago

“It’s bloody bossa nova!”

Laurie in a non-Blackadder pre-House role as a banker stuck in a dreary dead-end job, discovering in the worst way that his wife’s run away with his boss. Mere minutes into the movie and I like it quite a bit already. Found it as I went on a Laurie jag last night, trying on a few Fry & Laurie sketches, decided against getting more into that (or Blackadder, for that matter). Laughed mao at last year’s SNL Christmas episode which Laurie hosted, good stuff. Maybe I will dip into Blackadder …but for now, samba!
