A story about "Holy People, Holy Land: A Theological Introduction to the Bible" — 3 years ago
I came to this book with a lot of anticipation because of the rave reviews it has received. It is an excellent overview of the Scriptures from a traditional Roman Catholic perspective. However, it is because Roman Catholic theology so shapes Dauphinais’ and Levering’s “theological introduction” to the Scriptures that I cannot recommend this volume unreservedly: it’s not that I’m against RC theology per se, it’s just that too often the authors, I feel, read this theology into the text rather than out of it. In its place, I would recommend something like Gordon Fee’s How to Read the Bible Book by Book. IMO, the valuable feature of this book is the footnotes and references!
