A story about "iTrip" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

It works OK with the boombox in my home office, probably at a hair below FM radio quality. But it doesn’t work at all with the stereo in my rental car (Pontiac Bonneville), and the main reason I bought the iTrip was so I could listen to my iPod in the car. I’m glad I didn’t buy a car charger, too.

A story about "When the Wind Blows" — 4 years ago

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

The plot lines of some of Patterson’s books are unbelievable, but this one was just too much so—not just the genetic manipulation, but how the girl and other children can fly without practice, how she can fly as high as a plane, etc. I won’t read “The Lake House” since it is the sequel to this one, and from the preview at the end of this book, sounds even more implausible.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I enjoyed this, but after reading several books by this author, the recurrent plot line of disgruntled (semi-)retired military/government employee who fights an incredibly evil bad guy while having an affair seems to lack originality. I have another of his books waiting to be read, and I hope it follows a different formula.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Not as bad as some of her recent books, this still isn’t as good as the first few. But I enjoyed Scarpetta’s return (hopefully to be permanent?) to Richmond. Now if only Lucy would stop hooking up with psychopathic (and unlikely) girlfriends, the series could regain some of its former glory.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Works on local and U.S. voltage, and plays both U.S. and locally-encoded DVDs. Now I just have to figure out how to ship it home. :-)

WORTH CONSUMING!

I bought this for $69 at the PX in Baghdad’s IZ. It is dual-voltage, so it will work back home, too, and it plays both American (Region 1) and locally-purchased (Region ??) DVDs.

But very very cool. I look foward to the day that All Comsuming’s interface is as slick.

A story about "Fever Pitch (Full Screen Edition)" — 4 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

IMHO the only things this film had in common with the book were that the male lead has a sports obsession and both were funny. Although I did enjoy the movie, I am glad I read the book after seeing it—I would have been disappointed with the movie if I’d seen it after reading the book.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It deviated quite a bit from the book, expanded greatly (creating?) on a female relationship and not spending quite as much on the development and feeding of his obsession. Still, it was an enjoyable romantic comedy with a bit of sports fandom thrown in.

My copy has different cover art, so this version may be different, but I was disappointed that there were no DVD extras, especially since the movie itself was so short.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t even have this book; I was searching for “Slightly Single” (which I have read) and this came up first. I accidentally marked it as complete.
