Oh my, “bleh” was exactly the same word I just used to describe the book to a friend. Lots of hype, but horribly overwritten. Kunkel needed a good editor on this one.

I know absolutely nothing about boats, woodworking, or anything remotely connected to boat building. And yet I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Ruhlman is deeply fascinated by studying those who work with their hands (boat builders, chefs, surgeons), and his enthusiasm is infectious. Very interesting book.
Encyclopedic and authoritative…it never hurts to bone up on roots of country music.
