A story about "The Maltese Falcon" — 5 years ago

Well, I read it riding back and forth to work on the subway. It was a paperback edition from the eighties. I caught several folks reading the cover and nodding in approval when they discovered what I was reading. Boys especially. I laughed aloud several times, delighted by the language and oddly methodical descriptions of gazes and physical action. The first third was fun, the middle third was dull, the last third was all taut intrigue and double crosses. Couldn’t keep images of Bogey out of my head.

I really only read the chapter about the rodney king incident and reality television, but enjoyed it very much.

A story about "Color: A Natural History of the Palette" — 5 years ago

Though the author’s musings and looming presence over the material was a little cloying, the history, facts, and anecdotes about the colors are irresistable. Worth reading for a great introduction to the palette.

A story about "Post Captain (Aubrey Maturin Series)" — 5 years ago

It is only the second in the series, but it stands at this moment as one of the zaniest books I’ve ever read! An absolute blast.

A story about "Boy Life on the Prairie" — 5 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

though delightful, I guess i don’t quite embrace the prairie boy life so much as i thought. i had borrowed this from the library, but it is the kind of thing i would like to purchase a nice old copy to keep, so as to pick up and read passages at my leisure…

A story about "Blood Meridian: Or the Evening Redness in the West (Vintage International)" — 5 years ago

The most violent book i’ve ever read. As always with C. McCarthy books, I am tempted, daily, to quote from it often and at length.
