A story about "Dance of Death" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

About halfway through the book I was indescribably excited. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so pleased and excited by a book that I had to literally PUT IT DOWN for a minute so I didn’t scream or jump up or make a fool of myself on the bus. Getting all prepared for the end of what was going to be the best book ever, all of a sudden it started getting less and less good. It was still good all in all, but I was supremely disappointed when things started winding down instead of winding UP. I did literally scream a little fangirlish scream when all the old characters started crawling out of the woodwork. However…

++++++++++++POSSIBLE++++SPOILER???++++++++++++++++++++++++++I felt like the authors should have done the right thing and killed off more people. The story felt kind of incomplete when the possibility was SO CLOSE and it would have been SO GOOD. It was the hard thing to do to let go and kill some of those favorite characters, but it would have been very very satisfying (even though I’ve been right there with them, loved them even, by all rights they should have died).+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ +++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++

It sets things up for the next one (which I MUST get my hands on!). But if you’ve never read anything by Preston and Child, don’t even think about reading this because you probably won’t understand. You COULD, but it would be wasted. Part of the deliciousness of this book is in how it ties in to just about every previous book by them (even ones in which there was no character overlap), or at least gives joking references to the other books.

WORTH CONSUMING!

Just because I say it was Worth Consuming does not mean that it was good. But I am very glad that I did watch it because it gave me about 2 hours of laughter and fun with friends. No, it’s not scary. Yes, it’s a little ridiculous. But it did have some interesting moments along side some downright hilarious moments. Also I Liked that the characters, while not being original, were not just cardboard, emotionless blood-bags for the cannibals to tear apart—they were if anything EXAGGERATED, which made it really funny.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Possibly the least entertaining horror movie ever. And I’m someone who is entertained by good AND BAD horror movies. This was just painful. It was so bad it wasn’t even funny. :( STAY AWAY FROM THIS! Anyone who said they liked it or, heaven forbid, was “surprised” or “On the edge of their seat” when watching… ... well let’s just say I’d start distancing myself from them because there is something severely wrong.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I didn’t want to see this because I thought it would be stupid; it just didn’t appeal to me and I hadn’t thought the first one was as great as everyone said it was, so I assumed it was just more hype about the sequel. However it really was quite good. It had a sweet moral to it, great and detailed graphics, and seemed to be full of jokes that appealed to parents and children. Of course it was no where near as good as animated movie classics, even ones as recent as “The Lion King” and “A Bug’s Life” but still. Fun.

WORTH CONSUMING!

I don’t think it was as good as the first one in the series, but it was better than the second, maybe.

WORTH CONSUMING!

It was not the best Preston/Child book. Not by a longshot. But one of my favorite characters in the world is in it (Agent Pendergast) and though he seemed… to put it simply, “Different” in this book than in others, I still enjoyed it and devoured the book within a few days—the light style was really a welcome change from the book I’d been wrestling with for almost a month (mostly because of my schedule, but still) because it’s so light and “barely there.” Taken as part of a serial, I have to say that it was worth reading because you couldn’t possibly skip this book and go onto another because of major character developments. However by itself, I really don’t think it was that good (painful as it is to admit that, since I’ve been such a raving fan), it was in fact a big disappointment.

NOT WORTH CONSUMING

Normally when I go to see movies, I’m surprised when the end credits come up: I can’t believe 2 hours have already gone by! This movie was only 1 hour and 45 minutes, and I was shifting around uncomfortably in my seat about an hour into it.

I feel like I watched a quick storyboard or skeleton of a movie with no meat on it. I kept expecting the STUFF to happen. Even at the climax of the movie, and at the end of the movie, I was like “Okay, when is stuff going to START HAPPENING?”

Nothing
ever
happened.

I liked the first two movies, I like the actors and I can even get into the whole X Men idea even though I’m not a fan and I kind of shy away from the crazy fanatic aspect of it all - I even enjoyed a few scenes of the movie - but there is no way that I will concede that this movie even deserves one star. I’m sorry guys! They really screwed up, thinking that we’re too stupid to demand more than random special effects and bits and pieces of sub-fanfiction-quality plot sewn together with shallow, phony character development.

I did enjoy Kelsey Grammer as The Beast, however.

A story about "Dragon Prince #1 (Dragon Prince)" — 3 years ago

I wasn’t expecting much from this book since I’d never heard of it and I only picked it up because it was 50 cents at Goodwill, and most of the other books are 75 cents or something. So I was surprised by how good it was.

On the other hand, it wasn’t great. The characters were deep and well developed, but I got the sense that I was looking at them with big blind spots that I couldn’t understand. Kind of like the author’s head was in the way whenever I tried seeing or understanding a character. Or maybe the author herself didn’t quite understand the characters. But it did make a shot at least of making some decent character development and growth, which gave it big points. However a lot of the minor characters seemed EXACTLY THE SAME. At some points I got confused as to who was who, especially with background characters who had similar names. At one point I got really really confused because a minor good guy and a minor bad guy had almost the same name: Lleyn and Lyell. For a long time I thought they were one person until they appeared in the same scene 556 pages into the book v_v;

I also enjoyed the interesting magic which I haven’t encountered before.

However the dialogue seemed Middle Schoolish, and I didn’t like how all of the characters were “funny” but they were all the same kind of funny that wasn’t very funny. Like that was the author’s way of who had a good personality who who didn’t, basically, all the good guys were funny and had the same sense of humor. They were constantly stifling laughter and smiles, which annoyed me.

However, I still enjoyed the book.

A story about "The Murder Book (Alex Delaware)" — 3 years ago

I enjoyed this book. It was the first Kellerman that I’ve read so far, and while I didn’t personally like the main character much, the plot and the setting (and supporting characters) were interesting enough to keep me going (happily). I actually liked the way that the relationship subplot was NOT wrapped up in the end like it is in so many other books - some fake problem with a relationship that just happens to last the entire length of the main plot, please - life just isn’t episodic like that. Not that I find myself caring about Alex and Robin… at all. That’s one big problem with the book. But like I say, it’s made up for somewhat.

Why I recommend "Scary Movie 4" — 3 years ago

WORTH CONSUMING!

Yes, it was STUPID. But it was FUNNY. Which is more than I can say for a lot of “better” movies that I’ve seen lately. The fact that they were trying to make you laugh every 10 seconds means that even though they failed 3 or 4 out of five times, you might still laugh a lot. Especially if you’re accompanying someone around 13 who will enjoy it profusely and it rubs off on you.

Plus, I love it when people make fun of Tom Cruise and I’ve also always loved Debra Wilson’s Oprah.
